Trusted Tools: Evident ID and background checks

Our sitter ID and background checks are there to build trust and safety in our community, and to help sitters give extra reassurance to owners when they’re searching for the perfect sitter to care for their home and pets.

However, we understand you may have some questions about what our ID and background checks entail. Read on to learn more about Evident - our secure third-party provider - and how our verification process works in this handy blog post. 

Who is Evident? 

Evident is a trusted and accredited third-party provider who we have partnered with to carry out our free sitter ID and background checks. 

They provide the highest level of identity verification assurance, which helps us to create a safer, more secure platform for our members. 

What information do they collect?

For your ID document check, you’ll need to upload a photograph of an ID document, such as a passport, a driving licence or National Identity Card.

Identification checks are then performed and cross-checked via Evident, to make sure your document is valid and ensure that it has not been reported as lost, stolen or compromised.

For a background check, which is currently available to US sitters only, you will need to follow the instructions given by Evident and fill in all the necessary information, including your address and social security number. 

How do they handle data?

They use a bank-grade, end-to-end encryption security system to protect and secure your data - so you can rest assured your details will be kept safe and confidential. 

Your details and any personal information you provide during your ID or background check will not be shared.

Do I need to pay for an ID or background check?

No, not at all. Your ID and background check is free of charge and included in your membership. 

How does the verification process work?

Once you have submitted the necessary documents, your ID document application should be approved within 24 hours (but please bear in mind, it can take up to 3 days). Your background check may also be approved in 24 hours but can take up to 7 days. We will send you an email when your check is complete. 

What if I have a problem with my ID or background check?
