At TrustedHousesitters, we’ve always believed that pet care and travel can create meaningful value for pets, people, and the planet. In 2025, we got even clearer about our purpose of enriching lives. Through it all, our mission remained the same: to help people reimagine the way they travel.
This year’s Impact Report reflects that commitment and showcases the progress we’ve made in reducing our environmental impact, creating social value, and strengthening connections. Explore the highlights below and read the full report to see how we’re driving change today, as well as in the future.
“This report is our way of sharing our journey with you — celebrating the progress we've made while remaining open about the steps we're still taking.” — Mathew Prior, CEO, TrustedHousesitters

Reimagining travel
Travel opens the door to a global community, and enriches lives in so many ways — socially, environmentally, and economically. But it comes at a cost.
Today, tourism accounts for an estimated 8-11% of global greenhouse gas emissions, while overtourism and short-term rentals continue to burden communities worldwide. But small changes, made at scale, can be transformative.
Staying in a real home instead of a hotel, short-term rental, or B&B can reduce accommodation-related emissions by up to 88% per night in the UK, and 85% per night in the US.
Where we choose to stay makes a big difference, for both our personal experience and the planet. We believe tourism can be an overwhelming force for good when approached consciously. By sharing real, lived-in homes, our members can embrace a slower, more connected way to travel that benefits people and pets alike, supports local culture, businesses, and communities, and reduces environmental harm.

House sitting often takes members beyond the usual tourist traps, enabling them to experience a destination like a local. Take Elizabeth, for instance, who truly embraced this philosophy on her recent sit, with Myers the Lab acting as her tour guide around the hidden gems of the city!
Enriching the lives of pets
We closed 2025 with over 250,000 pets in our community, each one bringing its own blend of charm, personality… and occasional fun, pet-related chaos. Of those, 50.3% were dogs and 38.9% were cats (cat people, don't come for us).
Helping pets find loving forever homes
2025 marked four years of partnership between TrustedHousesitters and Helen Woodward Animal Center. In those four years, and with our support, Helen Woodward Animal Center facilitated 12,884 adoptions!
Our partnership came together naturally through our local community and member activity in San Diego. It was built on two things we both care deeply about: the human-animal bond and keeping pets happy at home.
In 2025, we continued our support through funding, awareness, and community engagement.
We…
- Created a dedicated partnership video for new adopters
- Sponsored the "Business of Saving Lives" initiative, helping animal welfare organizations worldwide share best practices and better support pets
- Supported major fundraising and awareness events, including The Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon
- Raised awareness for global pet adoption through Remember Me Thursday
“The only way to change the world of animal welfare is to work together.” — Mike Arms, CEO, Helen Woodward Animal Center
Enriching the lives of our members
Enriching lives is at the heart of what we do. In 2025, we facilitated over 2.6 million successful nights of pet sitting. It can be hard to describe the impact of these connections until you see them in action. Luckily, our members say it best...
“TrustedHousesitters has broadened my lifestyle and encouraged me to think differently about how I live, work, collaborate and travel.” — Shana, pet sitter
“We've been able to travel the world … each time receiving photo and video updates of our girls." — Mark, pet parent
Looking ahead: Our pledge to the planet
Protecting the environment is essential for the well-being of current and future generations. So we set ambitious, company-wide targets aligned with the Science Based Target Initiative.
Our climate goals
- Reduce our absolute Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 90% by 2050 at the latest
- Balance 100% of our remaining emissions each year through high-quality carbon-balancing projects
- Protect and invest in nature to help all living things thrive on our one and only shared planet
“Enriching lives is what has gotten us to where we are today, and it continues to drive us forward. The topics in our 2025 Impact Report will continue to shape how we think and operate, guiding us as we grow our travel community in the right way, acting in the best interests of pets, people, and the planet.“ — Mathew Prior, CEO, TrustedHousesitters
