How to choose a cat name

  • What are your interests? If you’ve got a particular hobby or interest, there’s a cat name in it! If it’s football, research players you like the sound of. If it’s literature, what about a name from your favorite book? And if cooking is your pastime, ingredients can make great cat names (miso and peanut, we’re looking at you!).
  • What does your kitty look like? Does your new fluffy buddy have a defining feature like brightly-coloured fur, white socks, a multi-colored tail or patches across their face? Or maybe they’re particularly fluffy, or gaze at you with piercing blue eyes. Either way, there’s a name in it!
  • What’s their personality like? If your kitty is particularly cheeky, sassy or cuddly, there’s a name in that, too.
  • When were they born? The seasons are full of inspiration, so if you’re not convinced by a defining feature or personality trait, dive into all things spring, summer, fall or winter to name your new furry best friend.

Is your kitty more comedic than spooky?

No worries, we’ve got just the ticket for your funny feline. If cat video popularity is anything to go by, cats can be rather hilarious (especially when presented with a cucumber…). So if your new kitty has had you in stitches already, check out these cat names that’ll suit clumsy kitties who love to get up to mischief.
