Sometimes all it takes is one encounter to know when you’ve met a kindred spirit.
And that was certainly the case for our member, (and Head of Charity Partnerships here at TrustedHousesitters), Angela, when her adventure across the States to Southern California brought her to Casey.
A cheeky and lovable soul, Angela was hooked the moment they met in Casey’s home of Rancho Santa Fe.

“The love and connection was immediate.”
Casey—a Cavapoochon—first met Angela (his pet sitter) back in 2019, when his pet parents were due for a vacation.
After a long-standing friendship and pet sitting history with Angela, there was no one better suited to look after their new pup Casey, than Angela herself.
Terry (Casey's pet parent), Angela, and Casey
Angela first met the couple back in 2012, when she sat for their three adorable pets—Alfie, Mitzi, and Sabrina. Since then, Angela has returned regularly over the years to care for the couple’s ever-evolving pet family.
And after the sad passing of Alfie—Casey’s predecessor, Angela jumped at the chance to care for Casey and the rest of his furry family.
Angela told us that upon meeting the pup, “it was as if we already knew each other”.
It was hard for Angela not to fall for this cheeky, loving dog. Whether it was snuggles in the king-size bed, the couch cuddles, or walks in local parks, time spent together was easy—as if the pair had always known each other.
“He would lay in my arms as if he belonged there.”
And when we asked Angela if there was anything she’d like to say to Casey, she blew us all away:
“Casey,
Now, it’s no secret I care for a lot of other pets, but between us—and let’s keep this our secret—it will always be you and me.
You, little one, are pure joy, cuteness beyond measure, gentleness personified, and with a dash of cheeky mischief.
From that first tail-wagging, full-body-wiggle ‘hello’, you had me wrapped around your paws. It was as if we’d met before, and you were simply stepping into your pawprints already in my heart—and fitting perfectly.
Velcro boy, you are my happy place. In that wonderfully clever way of yours, you make me feel like I’m your person. You are and always will be my favorite furry hello.

It was clear that the feeling was mutual—after losing a dear friend who happened to live just a block away from Casey, the pup was as much of a support for Angela, as she was for him.
“It was as if Casey knew. He came to me, looked at me with his knowing and soulful eyes, and buried his head in my chest while I sobbed.”
“Furry family you choose.”
Along with the doting company that Casey provided Angela during her sits in Rancho Santa Fe, he also helped her to connect with the local community, and nearby sights.
“Dog walks become a social activity—it gives you the chance to meet and chat with other dog walkers, and animal lovers. Dogs can be the best tour guides, too!”
After eight treasured sits looking after Casey (and counting), Angela plans to return to her furry beloved, her “happy place”, later this year.
