Madolline’s holiday house sit
“My first ever house and pet sit was through TrustedHousesitters back in December 2017 in San Francisco. I was incredibly lucky to get this sit for several reasons:
1. I was still in Australia when I applied for the San Francisco sit
2. I was a first-time sitter, and this was the first application I had submitted
3. I hadn't really thought about the logistics of the trip until I was confirmed as the sitter, so there was a lot of rushing around to book flights and hotels (for other cities on the trip), draft an itinerary, organise cash, etc...”

“The sit started a few days before Christmas Day and I was looking after a rescue cat called Harvey. Harvey had been living on the streets of San Francisco before the couple adopted him earlier that year so he was still pretty wary of humans, but he grew to like me.
I think that’s the main reason his owners sought out a sitter - so they could enjoy the holidays without having to worry about Harvey’s wellbeing. And, I guess they didn’t want to put their friends out, either.”
“We spent Christmas Day watching Netflix and eating Wholefoods snacks, cakes and slices, and a microwavable Thai dish (it was pretty good despite being a reheatable meal!). It was the first time I had spent Christmas Day alone, but I have grown to love travelling by myself at this time of the year.”

“I think I left a pretty good impression because I was invited back to sit for the couple in August 2018 and we’re still in touch now. I was actually asked if I would be interested in looking after Harvey again — for a third time — during the summer of 2020, but, sadly, COVID put an end to that.”
