CURRENTLY - Now back in our home town of Newcastle, NSW, Australia and acclimatising to the heat and humidity after the minus temperatures of the European winter! Our own house is tenanted until April, so we hope to continue the "sitting" experience and engage with interesting pets - its been fun so far!
DECEMBER 2016 - Chichester, looked after Rosie and Ellie - mum and daughter cats, and Clo the spirited Spaniel! She enjoyed our walks in the chilly West Sussex countryside and occasionally to the local pub.
NOVEMBER 2016 - In Letterkenny, Irish Republic, looking after Honey, a beautiful 16 year old golden Labrador, and Mimi, a gorgeous fluffy cat who is 13 years old. We take Honey for a slow walk each day, and make sure she has her arthritis medication twice a day, and their regular treats. We monitor and freshen Mimi's litter tray and make sure they're both comfortable and in bed each night.
OCTOBER 2016 - We cared for Ollie, a beautiful Border Collie and Catsby, a timid little cat who the family recently adopted in Northern Ireland. We went on long walks with Ollie each day, up the lanes and in the forest, played tug-of-war with him and cuddled up with him on the sofa each night. We kept in touch with their owners and sent photos every few days via WhatsApp. He's a beautiful and sensitive dog and needed lots of attention and affection which we were happy to give. We kept the house clean and made sure it was lovely for the owners to come home to.
OCTOBER 2016 - We looked after 2 gorgeous English Pointers, Monty and Gill in Foxford, Ireland. We loved taking them for walks over the fields and along the river each morning and evening, and watched them bound free and happy off the lead. We kept in touch with their owners via text to help them relax and know all was well with the dogs and their home. We kept the house very clean, picked up after the dogs and gave them lots of cuddles, affection and play.
SEPTEMBER 2016 - We took care of a sweet Jack Russell called Hector, and a very large and affectionate cat called Monsieur Gaston - and 2 sheep and 2 lambs in Normandy. We took Hector walking twice a day, along the beaches and into the village. We brushed Hector and Monsieur Gaston every day, and cuddled up with them both at night. We fed the sheep each day, and watered the many pot plants, indoor and out and cared for a large vegetable garden. Steve mowed the lawn and we kept the large house clean and tidy.
AUGUST 2016 - We looked after 2 delightfully, energetic Spaniels, Rocky and Jake, and an amazing 19 year old cat near Skegness, Lincolnshire for 2 weeks. We took the dogs for daily walks, along the paths and to the beach. We played ball and chase with them at least 5 times a day, watered the pot plants, indoor and outdoor, as well as the greenhouse. We kept the house clean and tidy and kept in touch with the owners via WhatsApp to assure them all was well.
AUGUST 2016 - We cared for a charming thatched cottage and Sid the Wonderdog, and 2 gold fish near Salisbury, in Dorset for 10 days. Sid is a wiry haired lurcher with an incredibly calm and relaxed personality. We went on short and long walks each day, played in the garden with his toys, kept the house beautifully clean, maintain the AGA which the owners preferred to leave on and deadheaded all the roses.
JULY 2016 - We looked after a large barn conversion near Winchester, Hampshire and 2 gorgeous dogs, Benson - an English Pointer, and Charlie Brown - a German Pointer, and Marmite the cat. We spent 3 weeks there and took the dogs on two walks daily over the fields and along the paths, fed all the animals, administered Charlie Browns medication twice daily by mouth, mowed the lawns, watered the pot plants and kept the house clean to a very high standard.
JUNE 2016 - We cared for 2 lovely cats, Mo and Gwyn in Gateshead, North East England - feeding, cleaning their litter tray and keeping them company with lots of cuddles.
MAY 2016 - We cared for Murphy, a delightful Jack Russell and a home near Inverness, Scotland for 2 weeks. We enjoyed taking him for 2 walks a day, gardening, watering pot plants and keeping the home spotlessly clean.
APRIL 2016 - We moved back to the UK from Australia
JANUARY 2016 - We cared for Jewels, a Shitzu cross and 2 chickens, Ashleigh and Valerie and their home and swimming pool for 4 weeks in Merewether, NSW Australia.
During this time, Jewels has an operation scheduled to remove a tumor in her ear. We liaised with the vet and performed all the after surgery care for her including administering pain medication every 4 hours and putting drops in her ears for 2 weeks. She made a full recovery and was in perfect health when her family returned.
We also experienced 2 major storms during our stay, which flooded the pool and underneath the house, and created havoc in the garden and outdoor areas. The torrential rain created an algae bloom in the pool which we corrected after having the water tested at the local pool shop and administering the required salt and chemicals to bring it back to perfect. We also ensured the water under the house could drain away and aired it out so there was no damp or mould smell when the family came home. We cleaned up the garden and outdoor areas, and removed all the rubbish from the property. I even repaired the mosaic which fell during the storm and was damaged.
JULY 2015 - We took care of Shadow and Bronson, two Blue Cattle Dogs, and their owner's beautiful home in gorgeous part of Tasmania for 3 weeks. We spent a few days with the whole family first so we understood their routines, likes and dislikes and how to run the house. During the 3 weeks, the dogs took us for walks around the property and to the beach everyday and taught Steve how to throw the ball. It was a delight to care for them and we thoroughly enjoyed their company and antics. We made sure the house was cleaned regularly and properly, and replenished supplies and cooked a meal for the owners to come home to. We kept in contact by phone to reassure the owners that all was well in their home and that the boys were happy and healthy. JULY 2014...We looked after Bessie, Daphne and Oscar, (2 dogs, 1 cat) and 7 chickens in a lovely home near the Watagan Mountains, Hunter Valley NSW for a week. We fed all the animals twice a day, walked the dogs, let the chooks out, collected the eggs and the mail, cleaned up after all the animals, played with the dogs and cat and made sure everyone was warm and tucked safely in bed each night. We cleaned the house before we left, and checked in with the owners to make sure everything was up to scratch. All good!
July-September 2013...We looked after a family member's home in the UK for 3 months, in London. We kept it clean and tidy, collected the mail and sent it on, and did small maintenance tasks as needed.
We both love animals and have lots of experience looking after them over 30 years of family life. We've had a number of dogs - a German Shepherd called Oke, a Jack Russel called Josh, a labrador/cross called Blackie and have fostered a Boxer called Bella. My cats were Shadow - a black persian, Sunny - a chinchilla and a Siamese called Pepper who I looked after for a year for my sister in law. I had a number of birds which we hand raised, mostly budgies, a cockatiel and an Australian native minor bird that had fallen out of the nest at about 1 day old, called Billie Steve also kept tropical fish when he was young. We don't have pets of our own at the moment but we feed wildlife every day at home...eg. parrots, rosellas, kookaburras, lizards (Eastern Water Dragons), possums, etc.
Steve is from a trade background (electrical and mechanical) and is very practical by nature. He is also a competent handyman and is currently restoring his 1930s timber built house. We're both keen gardeners, and do a lot of walking and cycling... so we're very happy to walk your dog/s every day if they like it.
