We are a fit and healthy retired couple in our early sixties who are eager to experience new locations as we care for other people’s pets and homes. Julie-Anne taught in primary and secondary schools throughout her career whilst Ian worked for the National Australia Bank and later for the Uniting Church Queensland Synod as a finance officer. We own our own home and take pride in its appearance and maintenance. We’re also avid gardeners and active members of our local community. Our interests include history, reading, travel, cycling, walking and gardening. We are non smokers.
Why we want to house sit
We are now at the stage in our life when we would like to combine our love of travel with caring for other people’s pets and homes. Our previous experience of holidaying in the UK was self-drive with accommodation in Motels or B & Bs. Whilst we enjoyed our travels we would like to immerse ourselves in the life of each community by staying for longer periods of time. By house sitting we will be able to enhance our love of history and natural attractions.
Our experience
Over the years we have had several pets including a dog, birds, guinea pigs and mice. We rescued Monty from the dog pound and for 10 years he was part of the family. We have had the privilege of looking after many friends’ pets over the years. We would certainly care for any pets as lovingly as we did our own; taking the time necessary to walk, feed and groom them whilst their owners are away.
We are an honest, trustworthy and reliable couple who have looked after both rented properties and the homes we have owned. For three years we were employed by Frontier Services as House Parents, looking after children from remote locations in north Queensland. As part of this placement we maintained a large home along with its surrounding grounds.
During our retirement we have been engaged as relief managers/caretakers of holiday units in Queensland. Our duties include care and maintenance of the pool, gardens and accommodation units together with administration including bookings and general office work.

My house was immaculately clean and it was so nice to come home and not have to do anything.
Any task like watering plants, taking bins out was not an issue.
Highly recommeded a wonderful couple- Organised

I know Ian and Julie-Anne through a couple of circumstances, including volunteering in the community garden, and social connections such as our neighbourhood church.

As a former primary school teacher, Julie-Anne is always engaged with other people and aware her responsibilities and relationships. I would describe her as considerate. Ian is also (theoretically) retired. His past in finance and accounting might be part of his meticulous and well-ordered style. They work hard for others and enjoy the priveledge of community engagement.
With regard to the pet care question - I expect they would do well with that, although I have not seen them with pets.- Organised

As they stay in my unit while I am on holidays it is important that they are honest & respectful people.
The duties in the office include dealing with the public, managing bookings through a specialised software program & overseeing of the trust account. Outdoor duties include maintaining the pool, gardening & general maintenance.- Organised
