"We entrusted Libby with care of our Family home and animals whilst we were travelling. She was delightful and easy to deal with, ready to accommodate the quirks of one of our animals and demonstrably capable of so doing. She never failed in her responsibilities. Our dogs and cat adored her and our home was well cared for. Libby communicated well but was also confident to make her own decisions, including taking an animal to a veterinary when she considered it necessary, for which we were most grateful. We do not have any reservations in commending Libby to anyone requiring a friendly, conscientious and competent house/pet sitter."
Hi! I'm Libby, a non-smoker and Airbnb host from Tasmania, Australia.
I have been lucky enough to take my work as a freelance graphic designer to some amazing places around the world. I have a love for travel and for the past four years I have housesat for some incredible families and amazing pets I have struggled to leave behind!
I have always surrounded myself with animals and adapt easily to new living situations. This is what drew me into the world of housesitting, it is an amazing opportunity to travel to another part of the world while feeling very much at home, fitting in with the hosts home and pets. Animals warm to me quickly and by spending some time with pets and their owners I get a good understanding of how they interact to ensure the transition between carers is as seamless as possible.
If you have any questions about me or would like to contact any of my references, just let me know. I would love to hear from you!
I have over four years experience housesitting in a variety of homes in many different locations.
I spent my childhood on a sheep farm on a small island in Australia's Bass Strait, with a population of around 800. During this time, my siblings and I spent every spare minute we had with our horses - in between helping out our parents with their responsibilities managing the stock and caring for the sheep dogs. Each spring we would gather up the orphaned lambs and raise them in the orchard until they were strong enough to join the rest of the flock. We also cared for the chickens, indoor pets (a corgi and a rescue cat), and occasionally an orphaned wombat! Since leaving the farm I have always surrounded myself with animals. My parents still breed horses and have some amazing indoor pets on their acreage and since moving to the city I have been limited to one sweet little rescue cat.
My passion is in animal welfare and ensuring each animal I come across has the best living experience possible. Including; good food, fun exercise/play time, regular grooming, routine checkups, and all the love!
I have cared for over 50 pets during my time as a housesitter, including; dogs, cats, horses, salamandas, chickens, and mice. These pets have required all different levels of care, some needing increased monitoring and medication, including; post surgical care, injections, and administering daily doses of various medicines. I have a special spot in my heart for each of the pets I have cared for over the years and continue to check in with the owners to see how they're getting on.
I have cared for elderly dogs and cats, a litter of 7 week old pups who needed lead and toilet training, and on a couple of different occasions, a playful little rescue kitten still adjusting to their new home.
The animals I have loved and cared for come from a range of different backgrounds. Some were strays, some rescued from shelters and puppy farms, some from highly respected breeders, and some truely adorable unknown breeds! Each pet and their owner have their own story and it is always a pleasure to hear it and to get a better understanding of the animal.
On the odd occasion I have also managed pet-free homes. Homes that require; pool maintenance, snow shovelling, indoor plant care, extensive gardening, regular cleaning, vacation rental turnovers, and just the peace of mind that the home is not left vacant on extended stays.
The homes I housesit always change, from small inner-city apartments with a couple of cats, to 50 acre hobby farms, and many things in between. I am yet to housesit a tiny home but I am very eager to do so! I have a strong fascination with these homes and would love to build my own one day.
I have housesat in rural areas, large cities, coastal towns, and remote locations. In the heat, the snow, the humidity, and through the wet season. I have dealt with a number of issues that have arisen during my stay, checking in with homeowners and taking initiative when the owners can’t be reached. I learn something new in each housesit and I hope this continues going forward!
My past housesits have ranged in length from three or four days up to five months. I have been asked to return on a number of occasions and have done so when possible. I have been referred to friends of homeowners on a number of occasions and have experienced incredible places and made some wonderful friends.
Being a homeowner and Airbnb Host back home, I understand the importance of finding the right person who will care for your home as you would do yourself. I also have the life experiences to solve those unexpected problems that tend to arise on occasion and I am very capable when it comes to general home maintenance; small repairs, painting, pruning, lawn mowing, gardening, and snow clearing. I am always willing to try something new and pick things up quickly once I’ve had a demonstration.
The final sell...
I am independent, adventurous, and active and I am looking to explore the world so I am open to travelling anywhere and everywhere! I enjoy experiencing new cultures and picking up new languages. I am very organised and reliable and have great communication skills! I can follow instructions and take initiative.
