I am recently retired and sold my house last year, giving me the freedom to travel. I am a quiet person who enjoys visiting towns of historical interest, travel by train and boat, and spending evenings reading and writing. I do not smoke and I do not drink alcohol.

Why I want to house sit
I live in Australia from December to April; the rest of the year I am travelling in Europe. I prefer to stay longer in places of interest where I can get to know the area in more detail and improve my language skills when possible. I speak French and German fairly well, and I have been studying Spanish and Portuguese. House-sitting gives me the opportunity to feel more at home and less like a tourist.
My experience
I have been house-sitting in Melbourne regularly for two households with cats since 2011. I have also had occasional house-sitting assignments that included dogs. I am currently cat-sitting for 2 cats in Nice.
I have had my own cats and kittens for many years. In the past I have also kept chickens. One regular house-sitting assignment included home-office assignments such as opening mail and paying bills. I have looked after my brother's labradoodle on several occasions, and for 18 months I walked my house-mate's 2 small dogs daily while she was working.
I am mature, responsible and conscientious. I love cats and am comfortable with easy-going dogs; I will give your pet as much (or as little) attention as they wish. I communicate readily by email and phone, and can send you regular updates with photos. I like to keep my surroundings clean and tidy.
My past working life included project management in East Timor, Rwanda, and DR Congo; coordinating volunteer workers for a Melbourne NGO; student advising in the US; and teaching English as a Second Language in the UK, the US, and Indonesia.
I have a valid "Working With Children Check" for the state of Victoria (Australia) that includes on-going monitoring of police records until 30/10/2022.

Recommendation of Ms. Nicola Reiss as house sitter
Many times since 2011, Ms. Nicola (Nicky) Reiss has house sat for us, here in our two-storey historic home-office in the Inner City of Melbourne. We have two neutered Burmese boy cats, whom we love dearly. Nicky certainly also loves our cats and takes excellent care of them.
Intervals of house sitting by Nicky have ranged from a few days to two months.
Nicky is utterly reliable, conscientious, and very clean and tidy! We’ve had many house sitters over the past two decades, and Nicky stands out among them as our favourite. We always contact her first, to see if she is available. She has become a good friend, in the process, whom we utterly trust.
Nicky is a single professional well-educated woman of about middle age, and very stable.
