About Melanie & Peta

We are two Australian teachers who are taking a break from work to travel the world in 2018. We are mature late-twenties females who enjoy exploring new places, spending time with animals, and learning new things. When at home, we love to spend time with family and friends, go to the beach, go for walks and try out new cafes and restaurants.

We are clean, considerate and understand that it is a honour to be let into people's houses to look after their beloved pets and we want to do the best job possible for anyone who trusts us with that responsibility.

Why we want to house sit

We love to experience new places and cultures and feel that living like a local is the best way to do this. In addition, we adore animals and love looking after other peoples' pets. House sitting allows us to travel and help another family, while living in a comfortable home in the company of delightful animals.

Our experience

We are both animal lovers who are travelling the world in 2018 before we settle down and (finally) get to have our own dogs in Australia. Both of us grew up with a variety of animals. We are both clean and organised people; who work as high school teachers in Australia. We have exemplary rental records and always respect the space that we are in. Peta house sat her parents large house and property, with their dog and chickens last year. On the property is a cottage which people stay in; Peta cleaned the cottage and looked after the guests. Mel has looked after family friends' houses on multiple occasions since the age of 17. We have both had our driver’s licenses for over 10 years and have never been involved in any accidents.

Mel had a much loved poodle; who she cared for as a child and had many rabbits, budgies, fish, yabbies and cats. Peta grew up on a big bush block and she and her siblings rescued and raised several lambs from a neighbour’s farm. She always had chickens on that block; and it was her job from the age of 6-18 to feed, water and collect the eggs from them. At various times in Peta's childhood she had ducks and geese as well. A highlight of her childhood was when Peta had two ferrets which she always loved playing with. Peta’s grandparents had a cat, Tinkerbelle, that she and her sisters would play with for hours whenever they visited them. Peta’s childhood dog Sam, a half dingo who was the best natured dog she has ever met, passed away a few years ago and it was one of the saddest days for her family.

Our extended family currently has two dogs. Ned, a spoodle, who belongs to Peta's sister and her husband. When they go away we dog-sit Ned and really enjoy taking him for walks every day. Indy is a blue-heeler cross rescue dog that my parents own; we always love to look after her when we go and stay at my parent’s house.

We are active animal lovers who are happy to go to whatever lengths are required to look after your pets to the best possible standard. We would be honoured if you would consider us to house sit for you.

Melanie and Peta did a wonderful job with caring for all our pets. They took fresh green from the field for the rabbits (I really highly appreciate this!), the old cat got her medicine and the desert mice were kept buisy.

Melanie and Peta were lovely houseguests and we really enjoyed spending time with them. The house was in perfect condition. I highly recommend them and we were happy, if they could ever do another housesit for us!
