Before you read more about me, just to quickly say I am happily enconsed in a Housesit in Perth until mid Oct, 2019, but I am looking for especially, but not only, more long term housesits from mid Oct, 2019.
I would also be able to have up to 1 or 2 nights away at a time during this current sit when the owners have told me a neighbour might be able to keep an eye on Tiger, my current feline charge, depending on her plans. So I am very interested in visiting the south west or north west coastal regions if the opportunity arises, for a bit of an explore and short break....
I am a very well travelled, English language university lecturer. Although I had done some housesitting previously from time to time mainly in Perth, Australia, I really fully utilised housesitting in 2015 while studying finish a Master degree at the Australian National University in Canberra and I've continued off and on from there. (See further references through links below.)
After completing my degree, I went overseas and had a wonderful time housesitting in Spain and the UK, where I taught at Cambridge University over the summer. I returned to Australia and then went to Nauru Island in the South Pacific to teach refugees until Dec, 2016.
Since then I have been doing relief teaching on a casual basis and working a few hours a week with refugees in Canberra while I continue writing my book. One of my daughters is studying in Canberra as well, so it is good to be close to her. I am glad to say I am now fully booked until the Nov 2019, but should anything change I will be updating my profile.
Why I want to house sit
I am so appreciative of being able to look after people's homes and pets in return for accommodation. It helped make fast tracking completing my degree a possibility in a year, which is fantastic, and in general, it's just a wonderful way to stay in places for longer periods of time than would otherwise be possible. It certainly suits my globetrotting personality, and has been giving me the chance to really crack on with my writing while seeing more of the world and teaching on-line. As I love all animals and seem to have a wonderful rapport with them, it really is a win/win :)
Recently, I've been thinking I would also like experience managing Airbnb accommodation. I have noticed that some housesits involve maintaining Airbnbs while the owners are away in return for some financial remuneration, and I envisaged myself doing that as a means to continue my writing...so if you have an Airbnb and are hoping to go away for a spell, think of me!
My experience
I own two properties in Perth, West Australia. In my time housesitting, I have looked after a wide variety of dogs, cats, horses, exotic birds, reptiles, a pig and chickens! I've helped in training a young lab, and had to give daily medication, including pills, to dogs, cats and horses. Some rescued animals in particular had personality issues reacting badly to other dogs and so on, which I coped with well. I've had to take animals occasionally to vets - one emergency, otherwise routine, fortunately all survived (most notable was a large cross breed dog suffering from paralysis in its back legs after a tick bite - speedy intervention saved her!) I am currently looking after two sickly cats who both take pill medication twice a day,
I enjoy weeding when it comes to gardens if I have the time, as I find it very relaxing. I am also accustomed to tending/watering veggie gardens and looking after pools.
Because I love housesitting so much and take it very seriously, I am extremely conscientious and give above average attention to the houses, animals and gardens in my care as my numerous 5 star housesitting references concur. You can see some more of my references from Trustedhousesitters.com, which is an international housesitting site, and Mindahome.com.au in my photograph section on grid site or on the sites themselves- I can provide links.
For teaching at ANU College and Canberra Institute of Technology (Navitas) while studying in 2015 in Canberra, I had to have police checks done, plus I have a valid the Australian Working With Vulnerable People clearance with card. I also have police clearances for Australia, UK, Japan, and Oman up to 2010 which were necessary for gaining permanent residency for the USA. I have received a police and working with vulnerable people clearance for teaching at Cambridge University. Most recently I had to have a medical and police check for teaching on Nauru, and then with a Carer organisation in Canberra. (See photos for most recent Police Clearance).
I have had an ongoing connection with Zanzibar, Tanzania, volunteering and organising other volunteers, as well as being the co-organiser of a project to bring 40 donated computers to a village from Oman in 2010. Also see Volunteering Zanzibar Facebook which I oversee. You can find my resume of work and life experience on Linkedin.

It was lovely to have Sarah look after our house and the fish. Everything was tidy and clean when we returned, all bedding washed and the floors sparkling. She communicated well with us both before we left and during our time away. Very pleased.

We were very happy with Sarah. She was impacted by our home renovation finishing late and did not complain once, just dealt with it (tradesmen in the house). She walked our two dogs daily & let them sleep in her room (what they're used to). Sarah sent use regular messages about the dogs including pictures which we appreciated. Her bedding was washed and on the line, leaving no impact on us upon our return. Sarah was lovely and we would recommend her for any sit.

Sarah had an instant connection with our dog Zorro and they seemed to thoroughly enjoy their time together. Even our cat who can be a bit cautious was won over. It was great not to have to worry about our home and our fur babies while we were away and be confident all was in good hands.

Sarah also looked after our large garden during autumn which needed very regular collection of leaves, watering and mowing of lawns. She did this very well our garden was in excellent condition when we returned.- Organised
