We are a young at heart retired couple having completed a career in the Canadian military. We try to travel several months of every year. Our home base commitments are simple and we can be away for extended periods of time. Our active lifestyle keeps us fit which is very important to us. We are a young at heart retired couple having completed a career in the Canadian military. We try to travel several months of every year. Our home base commitments are simple and we can be away for extended periods of time. Our active lifestyle keeps us fit which is very important to us. We have been a home owners and was always able to maintain my houses with my own skills and know how with minor repairs, renovations, security and upkeep. We have always had a dog or cat around the home and our children are all pet owners/lovers.
Why we want to house sit
We like to travel for long periods of time, our last trip was to the UK for a three month adventure from the cliffs of Dover to the Isle of Sky. Before that it was 177 days through south east Asia. There was also another three month trip through Costs Rica, Panama, Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands. So, including a THS time period during one of our trip would allow us to become familiar with the local area and have an opportunity to get set up for our next travel experience. At the same time, providing mature, quality and reliable home/pet sitting service.

Our experience
We are a fit retired couple with no allergies and a love of travel and domestic animals. We have traveled throughout North America, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Central America, and Ecuador. As retired military I have been to many other places in Europe. We would love to begin one of our adventures with a Trusted Home Sitter engagement.

We have also completed a dog rescue from Kurdistan, Iraq. In Jul 2017, we worked with the SPCA international office and my wife and I went to Erbil, Kurdistan. There we picked up a total of 6 dogs and brought them to the USA for service personal that had befriended the animals while serving in Middle east and had collected donation to have the animals to be brought to the US.
We currently have no "official" experience with "Trusted Home Sitters" but we have looked after our families pets and neighbors homes and pets many times.
Our travel adventures gives us plenty of experience at adapting and navigating in different environments and dealing with other cultures and languages.
The trust you put in us to care for your home and beloved pets would be very well placed.

Douglas and Alannah took great care of our cat for two weeks. They kept me well informed , Flicker even sent me an email!!

Douglas and Alannah cared for our cat and 2 dogs for a week whilst we were on holiday. Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to meet them face to face due to timings. Douglas and Alannah cared for our cat and 2 dogs for a week whilst we were on holiday. Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to meet them face to face due to timings. However, they kept in contact via text and our friend welcomed them to our home and introduced them to our pets. One of our dogs has been poorly and Douglas and Alannah kept us informed of her progress, cooked her special food and offered to take her to the vet if necessary. I would recommend them for future sits.

Douglas was great at keeping me informed prior to the stay. We were pleased to meet with Douglas and Alannah at our house, the day before our holiday started. They are very easy to get along with and as this was my first time using 'Housesitters', I felt very happy at leaving them in charge of our house and cat. Our cat apparently did not take long to make friends and 'rule the roost' as always! Everything was good on our return, happy cat, clean and tidy house, so many thanks to you both.
