We grew-up in England, but Saskatchewan, Canada, has been home since 1967. We have also lived in Australia for 2 yrs which was followed by 3mths in NZ. We own our home that I built in 1974 on 2acres of land, and have 2 sons & 3 grandkids. We retired in 2006; I was a high school physics/chemistry teacher and Eileen was a school secretary. I was ...
We grew-up in England, but Saskatchewan, Canada, has been home since 1967. We have also lived in Australia for 2 yrs which was followed by 3mths in NZ. We own our home that I built in 1974 on 2acres of land, and have 2 sons & 3 grandkids. We retired in 2006; I was a high school physics/chemistry teacher and Eileen was a school secretary. I was also a building contractor for 12 yrs and can do minor repairs in your home if you wish and if time permits. If there are ever any maintenance problems, I know how to fix them. We are quite practical and definitely self-sufficient.
We've traveled the world, touching all 7 continents in the last 11 yrs. I've visited Ethiopia 16 times where we do humanitarian work in schools with impoverished children. We're not slowing down. There ain't no moss growing under OUR feet. Given the choice, we prefer hostels to hotels, Airbnd to hostels and house sits to Airbnbs. In 2006 and 07, we went on African camping safaris. We'd love to live in your home, with or without pets, and will look after it as if it was ours. We seek out new experiences, different adventures, nothing puts us off. For example, in 1973, while in Australia, we looked after a 65-cow dairy herd for 6 wks while the farmer took a holiday. So skies'r the limit!
I'm a Rotarian. If you are, you know your home will be in good '4-Way Test' hands. And of course, I'll attend Rotary Club meetings in your community.
Since I wrote this intro, we have completed 6 house sits and about to embark on our 7th in Dubai. We've absolutely loved every one of them, and no two have been alike. That is the joy of taking care of different homes with different pets in different countries and/or communities. Please, will you take us on? I promise, you'll not be disappointed and will be able to relax while you are away from home on holiday or business.
Why we want to house sit
We prefer to live in the comfort of a home like our own rather than in an hotel. Definitely much cheaper for a pensioner, but other benefits are more comfortable, interesting, relaxed, and we can come and go as we please. I love to cook, so prefer home cooking and trying the different local dishes. I'm a passionate travel photographer and a writer. While living in a home I'll be able to do both - photo processing and writing - and both take time. You can see a handful of my images on my website at chrisclinton.ca
Since our first house sit for 7wks in Spain in Feb 2016 (3 lively dogs, 1 cat), we've completed a week in England with 2 cats, 4wks in Milford, Ontario with 2 large, energetic dogs, a week over Christmas in Vancouver (2 cats), a month in the jungle of Costa Rica with a 3-legged Bijou called Cujo and 4 cats, and a month in Powell River, BC, with one very independent cat. Next week we'll be in Dubai for a week with 1 dog.
Beside the great houses we've cared for with their beautiful pets, our greatest joy comes with the friends that we've made and the communities that we've visited, such a wonderful kaleidoscope of people. That's the main reason we want to continue house sitting around the world. As you read this, I hope you will become our next friend(s).
Our experience
We have traveled extensively to more than 50 countries, stepping onto all 7 continents, and can quickly adapt to the local living conditions. I was a building contractor for 12 years so can do minor house repairs, depending how long we're in your home, and can fix electrical and plumbing breakdowns. During our first sit in Spain, I had to solve quite early the problem with a power outage and, later, was able to repair the electric operated, sliding gate. In Costa Rica, the home was deep into the rain-forest and off grid. We had to be conscious of our living conditions all the time; watch the water and power consumption! Drinking water was double filtered from a nearby mountain stream that also provided the hydro power. I soon became accustomed to checking meters, power loads, battery charging and maintenance. There was a swimming pool on site that required my daily attention and occasional cleaning. In several places, we took care of gardens: cutting grass, weeding, watering (inside and out) and dead-heading flowers.
We've owned pets over the years and know their requirements. We'll look after yours as if they are our own. They'll not miss you! With 2 of our sits we've had to visit a vet. In Spain, on the day we arrived, one of the dogs, a pointer, ate poisoned meat on its walk and we all had to rush to the vet. The owners left 2 days later, so we took care of her. Then later, the other pointer picked up an infection so off to the vet we went again. Both survived. I spoke to M. the other day and all are okay. In Costa Rica, we had to take Cujo to the vet because he had several ailments including a skin infection that required special bathing every 2nd day. We had to administer antibiotics as well as eye drops. So you could say we are well experienced and you can rest assured that we'll take great care of your pet(s) while you are away. Oh yes, daily, in Spain, we were removing ticks from the dogs' fur.
We have just completed a 3-month, 5-house sit, holiday in France and England. It was a wonderful vacation because we met many lovely people and their adorable pets, as follows: Ventouse, France (3 weeks, 4 cats); Hastings (2 weeks, 1 dog). Shildon, Co Durham (1 week, 2 dogs, 1 cat, 12 chickens); near Newton Abbott (1 week, 2 dogs) and near Rugby (2 weeks, 2 cats, 2 horses). Travel between each sit was by train.
We have now completed 11 house sits in 2 years and consider ourselves as capable of taking on any challenge.

Chris was a great sitter for my cat. He was easy to communicate with and flexible with my early departure time. Chris was a great sitter for my cat. He was easy to communicate with and flexible with my early departure time. We spoke on Skype and it was reassuring that he and his wife have been doing this for two years. As this was my first time using this site, I wasn't 100% sure how things worked, but Chris knew the ropes, and I felt very comfortable leaving my home and pet in his care! I would most certainly invite Chris and Eileen to sit again if they were available!

This was our first time using Trusted House Sitters , so we were a little nervous but we needn’t have been , Chris and Eileen looked after the two cats and horses very well . The house was very clean and tidy and they were going to cook us a lovely supper when we arrived home , but as the weather here was closing in with the Beast from the East we suggested they left early . Luckily they did as the trains stopped running just after they left .
I would definitely recommend Chris and Eileen as sitters for your pets .- Organised

Chris and Eileen sat for us in difficult circumstances and were a pleasure to have around. One of our dogs required medication during the week and Chris was able to administer without too much difficulty.
