We are continuing to house sit and explore New Zealand before setting off globally again sometime in the future.

Hi, We are John and Lorraine, Non-smokers from Hamilton, New Zealand, who have been house sitting full time from August 2015. We are responsible, capable and trustworthy people. We have owned a large property with extensive grounds and have been pet owners. We therefore understand what is needed in taking care of ones most precious assets; and commit to take care of your home and animals as if they were our own.
We have holidayed widely and have now sold our house and businesses to embark on a travel odyssey, and would love to have the opportunity to take care of your home and animals as we travel.
A bit about John.
I’m originally from the UK and emigrated to New Zealand in 2001 after meeting Lorraine in a holiday romance (met, moved and married in 14 months, but that’s a story for another time). I have worked in financial services as a Business / Continuous Improvement Consultant most of my adult life until retiring five years ago. A foodie who loves to cook and enjoy a G&T or glass of vino, lover of music, reading, walking and golf.
A bit about Lorraine.
I’m a born and bred “Kiwi”, I grew up on a dairy farm and I am the eldest of six children. Most weekends were spent helping on the farm, milking cows and taking care of various animals both small and large we kids accumulated; pigs, lambs, chickens, horses, rabbits, dogs, cats, the list goes on. I have enjoyed a 32 year hairdressing career, the last 20 years of which have been in my own salon. I too am a foodie, but not a cook, I just enjoy John’s endeavors, lucky me!
We hope our video and profile provides a good insight and we are more than happy to do a Skype meeting with anyone to answer any questions you may have.
Why we want to house sit
As we have said we have holidayed widely but how often have you said “oh yes I’ve been to that country” but in reality have not seen much more than the location that the plane landed in. We felt house sitting would give us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the country and culture living as one of the “locals”.Also we see that house sitting is a win – win for both sitter and “sitted”. The sitter gets a home to live in rather than a hotel, and the “sitted” can rest easy that their home and animals are being well cared for until their return.
Our experience
We have sold our home, a large rural property on 1.6 acres, that we built and lived in for 10 years (see pictures), so have experience of keeping a good home and garden, and will look after that to which we are entrusted with the same respect. We both grew up with pets and as Lorraine describes above she a whole lot more. Martin our 10 year old Tabby will be enjoying his retirement on Lorraine’s sister’s farm when we depart, and whilst it will be hard to leave him the loss will be softened a little by taking care of new furry, feathered …. friends.Experienced careful drivers with clean licences, happy to run errands and do airport drop offs/pick ups, etc.We are both responsible capable people having held managerial positions and our own businesses, so can handle most situations, but also know when something is beyond our capabilities/authority and will contact home owners accordingly.Thanks so much for your consideration!

Lorraine and John were our first house sitters and very easy to work with and great communicators. Not to mention great cooks. Ziggy hasn’t stopped talking about them !!

Thanks J&L for taking care of our wee 4 and 2 legged friends (sorry the chooks were on a go slow) Buffy seemed content and happy when we got back so you obviously have her plenty of fuss,

they are amazing! but if my review is too glowing I may never get them back cos they will be too booked up!!...I cant speak highly enough of them they were reliable and respectful and cared for my house better than me!
