We are Neil and Rosemary, aged 73 and 62 respectively. Married for 35 years, we have two adult daughters, who live independently of us, in the United Kingdom and in The Netherlands. Our lives and work have always been in South Africa, and we were bitten by the travel bug early on. We are home owners and animal lovers, and are confident that we could turn our hands to caring for almost any animal, with the possible exception of reptiles.
Why we want to house sit
We have always enjoyed travelling, but because we owned our own business, we could not be away for extended periods. Now that we are retired, we have the luxury of time, and would welcome the opportunity of experiencing what it is like to live in - and not just visit - another part of the world. Animals were always a part of our family and home, but when we down-sized, we opted to live without them, so that we would enjoy flexibility, and could spontaneously pack up and go away. This has worked well for us, but we miss the daily contact with four-legged children, and so would love to lavish attention on new friends.
Our experience
We have been house- and pet-sitting on an informal basis for friends and family for the past twenty years. Now that we are retired , we would like to combine this interest with travel within southern Africa and to other countries. We enjoy good health and a high level of energy, are non-smokers and both have valid drivers licences. Neil, in particular, is a hands-on, technically-minded person, while my responsibility is the kissing of and talking to the animals!

Rosemary and Neil were an absolute blessing to our family. We were in a conundrum with a family reunion planned already for two years and the problem of arrangements for our faithful old dog Basil whom none of our local friends were able to care for due to his messy medical needs. Rosemary and Neil not only declared themselves willing but treated our beautiful old labrador with dignity and love at every step. They sent us frequent updates, videos and photos and gave us peace of mind. When Basil's health took a turn for the worse, Rosemary and Neil took him immediately to the vet and kept us updated through the night and next days. Through all this, they tended to our garden - no mean feat during a drought. We were greeted on our return with a shiny house and homemade food in the fridge - very welcome after a day of travel. We feel so very fortunate to have met such lovely and caring people and would not hesitate to recommend them for other pet sits.

Rosemary and Neil did a great job of looking after my dog Ira, sending me regular updates to let me know how she was getting on. They were excellent at communicating before their visit and left the house in a lovely tidy state for me when I returned. I would highly recommend them!
