Originally from Bath, I grew up in the countryside of south-west England which instilled in me a great love of nature, the outdoors and a respect for all animals, not least that we kept chickens, doves, cats, a dog, goats. I'm pretty sure a friend's ducks visited us for a 'holiday' too! I have lived in the North Island of New Zealand, The Eastern Caribbean on a private yacht in my 20's, the island of Bermuda where I lived in my 30's for 6 years. This is my second time to live in Spain. I have been happily based on the Costa del Sol for 7 years now. I'm on the sea-front with views of the gorgeous north-African coastline from my garden. Animal-lover from an early age and most likely certifiable as cat-crazy ;-) Have no children and a job that is pretty flexible and would allow me to do house-sits at fairly short notice. Have never smoked and don't touch alcohol (wish I could say the same about Cadbury's chocolate!) Languages: Native English-speaking, very good level of Spanish, basic French. As of today, 4th Feb. 2018, all the Standard Level Security checks have been verified as fine. Also, I would like to add that I have had a Criminal Record Check carried out in the last 10 years for a job application. Home & pet owners can be assured that my background has been checked and is absolutely clear and clean. I am more than happy to provide some references of former house-sits that I have done, which prove I am honest, reliable, tidy and always do my utmost for the animals in my care.
Why I want to house sit
I am very keen to travel, in particular to see more of Spain and interesting areas abroad. We only have so long on this beautiful planet. Why not enjoy the win-win situation of meeting new furry friends while exploring new areas and helping a home-owner at the same time. I was recommended to join Trusted House Sitters by friends that have been registered on the site for over a year and are thoroughly enjoying their experience. I am looking forward to the adventure ahead!
My experience
I have house-sat several times to look after 2 dogs, for home-owners in the beautiful island of Bermuda while I lived there from 2002-2008. More recently, friends that have a villa in the exclusive setting of Sotogrande here on the Costa del Sol, have been very happy with how I have looked after their 4 cats during times they have been away. Since 2009 I have been running a local, small-scale service for friends of cleaning services, property management and key-holding. At times this has also included staying over during Christmas, for example, when a friend wanted their cats looked after. I have really enjoyed these experiences. I would be happy to provide a personal reference and put you in touch with individuals that can verify my experience. Of course, with so much cleaning background you can be sure that your property will be returned to you nicely clean and tidy. In terms of animals to look after I would say that cats are my favourite, followed by dogs and of course I am happy also to look after other furry, feathered (and even scaly!) friends, from something as large as a horse, down to a caged bird or goldfish.

Melissa looked after our cat Hector and the house for a month. Everything was fine when we returned, including the car which we had arranged for her to use.
Hector was very shy of her but that was mainly due to the very hot weather, but she adapted her care of him so he wasn’t stressed at all.

Melissa has both taken care of my home and pets in Bermuda but has also been a trusted and valued colleague. I without hesitation suggest you use her services - doesn't come any more responsible and to be trusted woman than this.

Melissa has been taking care of our house(s) and four cats on a regular basis for the past 7 years and has always proved to be entirely trustworthy and reliable. Melissa has cared for the cats as and when required when we have been away for a couple of days or, when we have taken longer trips, Melissa has physically moved into the property to provide ongoing on-site care and much-needed cuddles! Whatever the circumstances, the house is always impeccable when we return and the cats happy and healthy with full tummies. All our cats are rescue cats and can be wary of people but they are all very comfortable with Melissa which is testament to how well she cares for them. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Melissa for house/pet sitting, I just selfishly hope she doesn't get too in demand to continue to do the same for us :).
