Hi, I'm an Australian citizen (born & bred in the UK) & have been travelling, working and house sitting around Australia, Asia & the UK for the last 4 years. Prior to that, I was a full time Yoga Teacher & Course Coordinator (12 years) working in the Education department of a large Yoga centre, north of Sydney. In the more distant past, I worked as a Preschool Teacher & Kindergarten Director (10 years) in the Milton-Ulladulla area, on the south coast of NSW, Australia.
Why I want to house sit
I'm currently in the UK for 5 months staying with my sister and her family on Hayling Island (near Portsmouth), helping my sister with her small gardening business and large family. My sister has five girls: the twins (Abi & Rosie) are 17 yrs old and the triplets (Martha, Seren & Ceinwyn) are 11yrs.
I'd really like to do something special for my nieces and am planning to have some time away with each of them individually, partly to give their over-worked mum a break, but mainly to spend some quality time with each and to have the chance to provide them with new and exciting opportunities.
I'm hoping to make use of the wonderful opportunities of house sitting in the UK and possibly Europe to achieve this dream, and hope to find short sits which will appeal to each of my neices interests and wishes. Ceinwyn would love to visit the Harry potter studios and a Japanese sushi bar in London, whilst Martha would like to explore the new forest. Seren wants to go to Cornwall to spend sometime with her best friend and cousin near Penzance in Cornwall. I'd love to take the older girls to Europe to help expand their horizons and build their confidence.
I grew up in a family where pets were an integral part of family life. We had a constant succession of Labradors, mice, gerbils, rabbits, tortoises and fish. Taking care and responsibility of their needs, feeding, cleaning, walking, playing and loving them, is to me, a natural and intrinsic part of life.
Over the last 4 years, I have completed about 10 wonderful house & pet sits in NZ and Australia with many of the house owners having asked me back for a second or third time. I've cared for various breeds of dogs, cats, guinea pigs, fish and horses and love the company of these animals.
In the past I have also owned two homes. One was a suburban Sydney beach house which my partner and I renovated. The second started as 25 acres of bush land on to which we built our 'muddy' home and lived 'off the grid'. Having been a home owner, I am experienced and knowledgeable in care and maintenance, handy with a hammer and a few electric tools, know how to deal with unexpected situations and emergencies, and just generally enjoy caring for, and keeping beautiful any space I am in.
As mentioned above, I've spent several summers in the UK, working in my sister's gardening business (mowing lawns, planting, weeding, pruning, harvesting etc) and loved every minute of it, so I'm hoping you might have a garden I can care for, or at least a pot plant or two to nurture!
Perhaps one of my strongest personality traits is loyalty. When a person is kind enough to let me stay in their home and enjoy the company of their pets, I would do my upmost to honour that kindness by taking the best possible care I can of their home, and most importantly ensuring that any four legged, 'stay at home family members' are well loved, healthy, happy and safe.
Both my major occupations required me to have a naturally supportive, caring, nurturing and responsible attitude, and I would bring this to any home, garden and, especially, any pets that I had the joy to spend time with. I love walking and being in nature, especially with the company of a dog or two. I am fit, healthy, happy, and believe in finding solutions not problems and using a good dose of common sense.
