Hi! I retired four years ago from my career as Headteacher of a large infant school in Lancashire, which leaves me free to travel around and see more of the world. I have been divorced for 20 years now so I am well used to having an independent life-style and looking after my own home.
I am a healthy, active non-smoker, with a very positive attitude to life. I am very much enjoying my housesitting adventures now that I am three years into retirement - it is a truly exciting new phase of my life. I have completed numerous house-sits, all in the UK so far, mostly looking after gorgeous cats, although one assignment was looking after a wonderful, well-behaved Labrador! I have thoroughly enjoyed all my assignments and returned to sit for a second, and even third, time for several of them.
Why I want to house sit
Housesitting is a wonderful way to meet new people and make new friends, whilst exploring new parts of the country and learning more about our amazing history and cultures. So far, I have felt most confident gaining house-stitting experience in the UK, but I am now ready to consider assignments abroad if the property was not too large or remote.
I really enjoy spending time in the house and garden, preferably with the company of cats! When I go on holiday, I usually choose to rent a house or apartment rather than stay in hotels. I love looking after properties - I'm very house proud, especially when it's someone else's house! There are so many gorgeous properties and a life-time is too short to live in all the ones I'd like to live in! House-sitting seems a good way to experience living in as many as possible. I am also considering re-locating sometime in the next few years, so house-sitting in different parts of the country might help me to decide where I would like to move to.
My experience
I have owned my own homes for nearly 40 years, and for many of those I have been the sole home-owner, responsible for the security and maintenace of the property. I have always had pets at home - mainly cats. I just love them! I would be happy to consider looking after certain other animals, but I cannot claim to have significant experience of caring for dogs unfortunately. I really enjoy encouraging a wide range of birds into my garden so I'd be happy to maintain bird-feeders if you have them. I can also undertake light maintenance in the garden to keep it tidy and ensure plants are watered.
As an ex-Headteacher, I am a responsible, trustworthy, well organised person, who is well used to making decisions and responding to unexpected situations that could ( but hopefully won't!) arise whilst housesitting.

Sarah (Sally) sat for Rosie our elderly cat recently. Rosie took to her quickly and was well looked after during our week away. We were kept informed and came back to a clean and tidy house and a happy cat. Highly recommended.

Freetoroam came last week to look after Moth and Ariel, my cats. She was a wonderful sitter, I came home to two relaxed and happy cats (no sniffy turning their backs on me for desertion) spotless house, flowers on the table and little gifts around the house. Such a pleasure too to meet FTR and ...
Freetoroam came last week to look after Moth and Ariel, my cats. She was a wonderful sitter, I came home to two relaxed and happy cats (no sniffy turning their backs on me for desertion) spotless house, flowers on the table and little gifts around the house. Such a pleasure too to meet FTR and I now consider her a friend. I've already booked her for June! Moth and Ariel will be delighted.
