Hello there! I am a fit and active late 50's animal lover who enjoys traveling. My interests include walking, cycling, tennis and dance exercise and I am presently learning golf! I work as a supply teacher in local Primary Schools. I have completed 21 successful house sits since 2008 using this and other house-sitting web sites. I joined 'Trusted Housesitters' a few years ago with my partner Chris, but we are no longer together so now I am usually accompanied by a single female friend. I can provide excellent references and have enhanced security clearance thanks to my job as a teacher. My availability is flexible but ideally I am looking for house-sits during the English school holidays and for the occasional long weekend.
Why I want to house sit
My work as a supply teacher provides opportunities for me to travel. The reasons I enjoy house sitting so much are the opportunities it provides to the visit different places and look after a variety of pets & animals. I also enjoy meeting new people and living in the comfort of their home. It's exciting to be part of a different community, even if it is just for a week.
Twenty years ago I did a one year teacher exchange to British Columbia, Canada. I swapped homes with Cindy, Mal and Shandy, and it was a very positive experience. It was my introduction to a dishwasher, air conditioning and my particular favourite, a remote control garage door!
In spring 2008 I discovered house/pet sitting. My first was a dog sit in Hackney, London, looking after Benson a lively two year old spaniel. We enjoyed many happy walks and outings together.
Full of enthusiasm my next charges that summer were two chow chows, Elsie and Eddie. They were amazing, and caused quite a stir, often mistaken by unknowing children as little lions! A few different friends visited to meet this extraordinary breed.
In February 2009 I traveled to Las Vagas to dog sit an American fox hound called Henry. What a memorable trip that was!
In August 2009 I visited the historic city of Cambridge to look after three maine coon cats. They were gorgeous and quite mischievous!
Two weeks later I looked after two tenterfield terriers in an eighteenth floor apartment in Singapore with my twin sister Christine. Oscar and Pokey were delightful dogs and we had a real cultural experience.
August 2010 saw me traveling to Hawaii (main island) with friend Marie to take care of Sadie and Freda, two mixed breed medium sized dogs in their lovely tropical home. We visited the local beaches, volcanoes, botanical gardens, and even gazed at the stars!
Next came a house-sit in August 2011 - four weeks in San Diego, U.S.A., looking after 10 chickens, Thunder the dog (a cross between a german shepherd and a corgi!) and a large vegetable garden. Friend Viv and I were treated to a very healthy diet and thoroughly enjoyed the Californian way of life.
In June 2012 Viv and I visited Lyme Regis on the Dorset coast for a week, taking care of a sweet chocolate labrador called Otto and his four feline friends - two indoor and two outdoor cats, Ziggy, Kitten, Bob and Tabatha!
Chris my partner then joined me on my pet sitting adventures. Together in August 2013 we visited Sitges near Barcelona, taking care of apartment cats Muffin and Mia, who were simply delightful!
Following that, in May 2014, we had the pleasure of taking are of Murphy a lively cocker spaniel and Skye, a chocolate labrador in a beautiful rural location in Northumberland. We made a return visit in 2017.
May 2015 we stayed a week in the village of Chew Magna near Bristol looking after cuddly cats, Dora and Newton, boisterous guinea pigs Coco and Conker and four affectionate chickens.
August 2015 (three weeks) and August 2016 (10 days) saw us in Dorset with Milky the adorable cocker spaniel and a tropical fish tank in a beautiful village near Poole.
In 2017 we signed up with 'Trusted Housesitters' and have found the organisation highly impressive.
Easter 2017 Chris and I had the pleasure of caring for dogs Ruffle (collie/spaniel mix) and Tumble (labrador/retriever mix), and Scrabble the hamster, in a idyllic rural home in East Sussex. We loved the surrounding countryside and were treated to 10 days of wall to wall sunshine - unbelievable!
In May 2017 we had a four night pet sit in a prestigious area of Rome, living in an apartment with Pascal the comical Boston terrier, and three cats, amazing!
I then did a six day dog and cat sit in Derby during July 2017 with Viv again, exploring great local parks and visiting family.
Next Chris and I enjoyed a ten day visit to rural Devon in August, looking after three dogs in a 'picture postcard' thatched cottage, breathtaking!
In September 2017 we paid a return visit to rural Northumberland. It was wonderful to see Skye and Murphy again and spend time in a very modern and spacious property.
And Chris and I spent a week in October 2017 looking after a country estate in the South Downs National Park. It was an amazing experience! There we had the company of Daimler the Dachshund, Waffle the Labrador (who was in the advanced stages of pregnancy), three hens, three Kune Kune pigs and some goldfish!!
May 2018 saw us in Somerset for a week with mother & daughter Springer Spaniels Madge and Dottie, and their 10 chicken friends! We had a great time.
Chris and I amicably parted company this summer. So on my house-sit to Windsor in October I was accompanied by my friend Sue. We had the privilege of looking after Maisie a gorgeous 2 year old Golden Retriever. And it was wonderful to see for ourselves the town that has hosted two Royal weddings this year, and to explore the local parks and countryside.
My most recent house-sit was for one week over the Christmas period with my twin sister Christine. We enjoyed looking after two year old playful cat Lyra in her lovely home in Kingston-upon-Thames. We went sales shopping on Oxford Street, London, visited friends and relatives living near by, and explored Richmond and its famous park.
I can't wait to find out where my next house sit will be!
