N.B. :- WE ARE UNAVAILABLE UNTIL LATE APRIL 2019
OUR first priority is YOUR pet's welfare and our MOST treasured feedback is when owners acknowledge that we did our very best to look after their pets as if they were our own. We take great pride in spending as much time as possible with our foster pets during sits and never leave them alone for longer than is absolutely necessary -- we do sightseeing and tourist stuff in between house-sits -- NOT during them.
ABOUT US :- Our permanent home is in Scotland, however, we spend November until February in New Zealand most years.
We are retired business people who ran several Sub-Post offices [ before internet took over ] along with associated retail and a seperate catering outlet in central Scotland. We cashed in our chips in 2007 to go walkabout and got ourselves a Motorhome and explored most of Europe and further afield taking our gorgeous Cocker Spaniel with us. We joined T.H.S. in late 2012 to fill a big void when our beloved wee dog died and we have been very fortunate to be trusted with looking after some wonderful pets and meeting lots of lovely people worldwide, many are now good friends and first priority repeat clients.
Fit and active Non Smokers, we are young at heart and adore all dogs & cats and have looked after lots of other four legged friends in our time. We are well organised and use our initiative to get things done, Nick is the practical DIY type, Isabel is the one who has dealt face to face with others all her working life. Both of us are fairly easy going and laid back and pets usually respond to this 'chilled' attitude positively. We do however take great pride in doing things to the best of our ability and strive to be as professional as possible. We met and fell in love a long time ago and have shared the almost constant company of many cats and dogs and have looked after friends pets when their owners went on holiday. We have bought a few plots of land and built homes on them, renovated several others and also rented out on the holiday property market, we are currently private landlords so we have vast experience of dealing with and resolving all things property related.
AVAILABILITY :- Most years we actively seek sits in New Zealand from early NOVEMBER until late FEBRUARY -- our son lives in Auckland. Other months we prefer sits in mainland Europe. We do NOT normally do sits between JUNE -- SEPTEMBER, SORRY -- This is ' our time ' back home in Scotland when we catch up with family & friends and do our best to improve our handicap's at Golf & Lawn Bowls.
Why we want to house sit
Having a base to stay at when travelling is a great way to get to know an area and it's people really well and it's what we did throughout Europe in our Motorhome for several years. Looking after your pets means we feel 'at home' in your home and part of your community instantly.
We now travel so frequently and widely it is impractical for us to have our own pet, however, we experience serious withdrawal symptoms if we don't have regular four legged contact and lots of cuddles and walkies so looking after your precious pets when we are entrusted with their care means we can have the best of both worlds. We are able to travel where and when we are wanted and get great pleasure from looking after foster pets for as long as needed. We also love visiting new places and meeting new people and helping others out really is a very fulfilling thing to do, especially when we can fuss over your pets and our reward is to receive their affection in return.
We have enjoyed looking after so many pets in lots of different countries now and are happy to fit in with your arrangements, we usually hire our own transport locally.
Nick has an engineering and management [British Telecom] background with a Can-Do attitude and is a very accomplished DIY hands on person so can resolve almost any house related issues that may arise in your absence, including pool maintenance and gardening. He is always looking for things to do so if you have any outstanding jobs that you haven't quite got around to:- Just ask.
We are homeowners and private landlords and know that entrusting your home and pets to others in your absence is a big step, rest assured that we take great pride in maintaining our own let property to a very high standard to ensure we retain high quality tenants. We will treat your home and pets with the same care and respect as you would treat it yourself and are fully committed to the code of conduct within this website, we always produce our police check and our home address to clients once an assignment has been agreed, we also have personal liability insurance.
Over the years we have had many cats and dogs and have kept tropical fish. We are used to dealing with chickens, ducks, geese, our House Sitting experience to date includes most scenarios :- No pets- a security sit on a property for sale, to all of the following :- dogs, cats, chickens [ lots & lots of chickens ] ducks, geese, sheep, cattle, pygmy goats, pigs, fish, parrots, cockatiels.
We have looked after the following dog breeds :- Gordon Setter, German Shepherd, Estrela mountain dog, Fox Terrier, Collie, Spaniel, Cockapoodle, Weimeraner, Bulldog, Scottish Terrier, Westie, Jack Russell, Great Dane, Labrador, Labradoodle, Border Terrier, Kelpie, Whippet and lots of adorable mixed breed Heinz 57's. Cat breeds:- Siamese, Burmese, Manx, Tonkinese, Bombay, Birman, Abyssinian and ordinary Moggies, all very different but all a pleasure.
We have extensive experience with many 'rescue pets' each with varying degrees of anxiety and behavioural issues and [ so far ] have always managed to earn their trust. It's a marvelous feeling to be accepted by a pet with a prior history of neglect in it's life.
