My husband & I are grateful to live on a large property in a small community nestled in the foothills of CA's Sierra Nevada Mountains, where we've resided since 1986. We also own a rental home in nearby Chico, a university community, so we know what it's like to have folks residing in your home--I have quite successfully, rented and managed our former residence in Chico, with folks staying/renting from us for 4-11 years each rental home in Chico. As in most of life, we treasure clear, concise communication with our renters and always try to promptly address anything that may come up. We were both raised to displlay concern and show gratitude toward others. Thus, as homeowners and managing a rental, we have the greatest respect for others and always leave the places we stay in fine shape. That's guaranteed!
Why we want to house sit
We adore animals, furry and otherwise, and we are outdoor enthusiasts and gardeners, and my hubby Steve is great at repairing all things around the house and property. We both enjoy making our home a welcoming, cozy, artsy, and tidy place for friends and family. We enjoy, entertaining, hiking and being adventurous and respectful travelers.
Following a long career in the business world, I, Sue, launched a house and pet sitting business to primarily serve the needs in our small, mountain community of Forest Ranch, in the foothills of N. CA's Sierra Nevada mountain range. I aptly named my enterprise, "There's No Place Like Home." I wholeheartedly feel that most pets are happier at home when their owners are away and that it is far easier for them to adapt to a new caregiver than a new, unfamiliar environment!
I have pets who I take care of on a daily basis, while their folks are away at work, and I also care for pets while their human family is away on vacation, business, visiting family and so on. It's great caring for pets; they don't care if I show up in jeans, sneakers and a t-shirt; they are just happy to see me! I do most of these sits on my own, but Steve is nearing retirement, so soon we will be able to do more pet/house sits as a duo.
I am a naturally kind, nurturing and conscientious person. Or as one of my favorite childhood books claimed, " I meant what I said what I meant, an elephant's faithful 100%." When I complete a sit I take pride in leaving behind happy pets and satisfied, repeat customers. I enjoy keeping our home & gardens in tip-top shape and love keeping my clients and their pet family deeply satisfied with my services. My hubby of nearly 29 years, Steve, and I both grew up with lots of pets in our lives. As a kid I volunteered to regularly walk our neighbor's dogs, cared for friend's horses in exchange for an occasional chance to ride, rescued stray kittens and mature cats that my parents, sometimes reluctantly let me keep, and if we didn't adopt them, I was passionate about finding good, permanent homes for them.
These days Steve and I thoroughly enjoy our precious, 10-year-old border collie, Cab, who brings us endless joy! I am an avid gardener, both indoors and out. Steve has an amazing green thumb when it comes to raising veggies and tending our small vineyard. He is also an absolute whiz when it comes to troubleshooting repairs around our home and can miraculously repair just about anything!
In addition to your pets, we are both keen to help care for your yard/garden while you are away. Both Steve and I have traveled for work and leisure and cherish meeting "the locals" as well as fellow travelers during our many memorable adventures, both domestic and international. Cab comes along whenever possible--he likes to travel, too. Among other activities, we also enjoy camping, kayaking, cycling, and hiking. Cab loves to ride along in the kayak with us!
Steve, is the technical services and new products manager for Lundberg Family Farms, a highly regarded pioneer in the organic rice business in N. CA. He began working for the company while he was attending university and in August of 2016 celebrated his 40th year with the company. I He has worn many hats over those years and is a valuable, reliable, and conscientious employee. The company recently sent a press release to the local paper and referred to him as a "golden asset" to the company! He has been recognized many times for his contributions and sincere dedication to the Lundberg family and his endless enthusiasm and remarkable ability to accomplish complex projects, on time and under budget. Steve is extremely mechanically inclined and maintains all of the machines, tools etc...on our property and in our home. He is a natural innovator and an enthusiastic busy guy. He would, of course, bring his enthusiasm and talents to any pet and/or house sit, which should set homeowners at ease while they are away. We work great as a team and both bring useful skills and abilities to each pet/house sit. It would be our pleasure to care for what is dearest to you while you are away from home. Your satisfaction is our passion!
