I work for a local government in a management position. My partner works for a large local company in a technical role. We are an active couple and our travels usually include hiking and exploring. We want to travel more, and equally important, we look for places that will help us to decompress from our stressful jobs. We both love to explore and emerse ourselves. Having the opportunity to settle in with critters around us will make us feel right at home as we experience your community as “locals”.
Why we want to house sit
We are looking for opportunities to emerse ourselves in different communities and offset some travel costs at the same time. I love animals and have had many throughout my life, and the pet-sitting concept seems like a great fit. We love to explore new communities and cultures, and sometimes need a change of pace from our work obligations. Whether we house-sit together or I travel alone to take a quick break from work, we are always looking for different ways to experience the world.
Our experience
I had a pet-sitting business during my childhood (it was more fun than babysitting!!) and as an adult, I watched my friends’ pets. I worked at an animal hospital for a couple summers while in college. I own a thoroughbred mare and when we were both younger, we competed in hunter/jumper shows. I have grown up with dogs and cats, and lots of smaller animals—our home was populated with various critters, including rodents, reptiles, birds and fish. Currently, we have one 27 y.o. horse, 2 middle-aged cats and 2 dogs (one of which we are fostering for a local dog rescue--she is a senior dog with numerous health challenges that we are managing). I have seen it all, from Cushing’s to urinary crystals, and everything in between. My pets seem to be rather “high maintenance”, which has further trained me for any circumstance with pet health!

I recommend Heather unreservedly! She has looked after our house and cats on numerous occasions when we were away. She is extremely conscientious, dependable, trustworthy, and best of all, a lover of animals! She also happens to be good in a crisis and can think on her feet - very important characteristics when you realize something has gone wrong at home and you are not there to fix it! Having Heather staying at my home gave me peace of mind so I could relax while I was away.
