We are both fit, active and responsible, and are used to living in different cultures and being respectful of other people's lifestyles and preferences. Graham loves all sport especially football (soccer) and golf and likes writing, reading, theater, movies and hiking. His career includes systems engineering and senior management roles as well as tech start ups and business development for a Premier League football club. My background is as a project manager, health and nutrition coach and public health nurse. I love animals of all descriptions, growing my own veggies and herbs, cooking, reading and hiking.
Now we have completed our Peace Corps service we are ready for the next adventure wherever and whatever that might be. We both enjoy meeting new people, volunteering and trying to make the world a better place :) and are excited to see what life holds for us next.
My husband Graham and I have recently completed a 2 year commitment, serving as volunteers with the US Peace Corps in Albania. As a nurse I was working in Public Health and Graham with the municipality in the city of Fier. Our assignments required us to be good communicators, build capacity especially with youth and maternal health NGOs and be creative thinkers and problem solvers. Service in the Peace Corps also meant we became very used to having no power or water - so added improvisation to our repertoire :) We try to live with a light touch for resources such as water and electricity.
We have both been homeowners for over 35 years in the USA, UK and France. We have owned a variety of homes, including some with large gardens, swimming pools, ponds and hot tubs, so we are well used to sorting out all the challenges of fixing "things" around the house and garden, and we know when to call in the professionals. We raised three children together, during which time we have had the privilege of sharing our lives with many animals including dogs (Chesapeake Bay retriever, golden retriever, black lab and Lhasa apso mix), cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, horses, chickens, fish, turtles, birds and goats. We have also raised 2 Guide dog for the blind puppies. We are both computer literate, having started our working lives with IBM, and our skills include MAC and PC software especially Microsoft Office - Word, Excel and Powerpoint, i-phone apps as well as familiarity with networks. I love to grow my own food and we are happy to care for your plants, veggies, greenhouse, lawns, garden, pool, pond and hot tub.
How will we look after your home and furry friends? In 2 words - REALLY WELL. For the last eighteen months, following our Peace Corps service, we have been traveling around Europe and Africa not only house sitting but staying in many airbnb places. If you check my airbnb profile (https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/24814149) you will see that we have been very respectful of our hosts space and possessions with more than 35 positive references - so are well used to being in other people's houses. That also means we know what works well for an airbnb and what doesn't. Because of work commitments we have been renters ourselves in the last few years, and we also manage our own rental properties, so are happy to help you with either vacation rentals or managing your airbnb while you are away. Because of all the traveling it is not practical for us to have animal friends of our own at this stage in our lives - so we really look forward to caring for yours.
We are non smokers and prior to our Peace Corps service had mandatory full FBI criminal record and finger print checks. As of February 2018 we have completed more than a dozen sits long and short and have been designated "Super Sitters" by Trusted Housesitters - which makes us happy :) Since starting our sits we have cared for many types of dogs (Boston terriers, Scottish deer hound, Rhodesian ridge back, Munsterlander puppy, GSPsx2, spaniels, several labs and retrievers and several adorable mutts) large and small, old to very young, neurotic, scared, energetic, timid, happy and sick. We have loved being with them all - along with all the cats - indoor and outdoor, "moggies" and pure bred - and many other animals. Last year we added sheep to our repertoire of farm animals and also, thanks to our sit in Botswana, have worked successfully with household staff.
On every sit we do we learn new things and make new friends and experience new places - it's such an amazing adventure.
