I prefer to stay in place for a month or more to really get to know it, and it usually ends up being more... It all started on my first trip to Rio where I stayed in Rocinha for 6 weeks just living. After having completed my MA in Applied Cultural Anthropology at Georgia State I wanted to take a break before embarking on my career. In the following years I spent 6 months on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, 6 months in Florianopolis, Brazil, a month in Cartagena, and most recently 4 months in Jamaica. My Spanish and Portuguese are rudimentary but I can take a take a taxi, order a meal and have basic conversations - locals tell me I speak well, but they are just being nice :) I've also been able to take shorter trips to Rome, Amsterdam, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Chile, Uruguay, Singapore, and Nigera. I currently have a valid Brazilian Visa.
Why I want to house sit
I typically rent through Airbnb or through local connections even for shorter trips, and thoroughly enjoy this over hotels, however now and then I'll choose a boutique hotel or a hostel with private rooms to be in the best position to meet the locals. I have a stellar reputation on Airbnb. I am in the process of listing my home on Airbnb in preparation for the Super Bowl here in Atlanta. I prefer to skip the winter of Atlanta, and even though it is no where near as cold as my birthplace of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, you will only catch me going south from here on out:)
I am currently looking for a respite on the beach - I am preparing for a career change and need to do some soul searching. After 10 years of applying my anthropological research skills to corporate America, working long hours no matter where I am in the world, I am looking to change direction but haven't quite figured out what that direction is. I cant think of a better place to do this than while on long walks on the beach with some canine companions.
My experience
When I moved to Atlanta in 2006, I rented a duplex from a landlord who lived in Moscow. Soon there after I took over managing 3 properties here in Atlanta for him. I handle everything from screening tenants to paying the taxes and utilities to small repairs to hiring contractors for larger repairs.
I'm currently giving my entire 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit a face lift, repairing old dry wall seams, covering the whole place with a fresh coat of paint, and preparing it to meet the standards I expect in an Airbnb - so I'm pretty handy and able to take on small tasks around the house or manage repairs as needed.
Despite my travels I manage to maintain plants and am willing and able to do light gardening.
I have had dogs my entire life growing up and if it weren't for my travel life-style, I would currently. I did semi-adopt a dog in Costa Rica inadvertently - he had had mange and was deeply terrified of the landlord who had trapped him for treatment even though it was the same hand that fed him, so he opted to sleep on my porch and accompany me on my beach walks which I really enjoyed.

Angela Klepach is reliable, considerate, low-key and will leave the house in great order.
I have had the pleasure of having her at my home and in my opinion she would be a great house sitter and was very good with our four dogs.Angela Klepach is reliable, considerate, low-key and will leave the house in great order.
