I’m a mature, married, professional woman who owns a home and loves animals - especially cats. I often work remotely via computer & mobile. House-sitting combines my love of cats AND travel, while allowing me to do my work. My husband works for an airline, air travel is easy and inexpensive, thus I welcome long distance housesitting engagements and short engagements are often not a problem. My husband frequently accompanies me for part or all of a housesitting engagement and this is always worked out with the homeowner, in advance.
***Please note that except for availability for short sits in October and November, I am booked through February 2018. ***
Why I want to house sit
As my beloved kitty grew old, it became impossible to travel without someone to stay in my home to feed and love him, so I understand the needs of pet owners. I love to travel but prefer homes to hotels and like to stay in one place. House-sitting is a great way to experience local culture, while giving someone else the peace of mind of knowing that their homes and furry family members are well-loved while they take a break or travel on business.
As a homeowner and an executive coach, I am mature and professional. I am accustomed to making decisions and dealing with whatever comes up. I am a tidy non-smoker, am good with plants, have a clean driving record, and treat homeowner's homes, cars, bicycles, and more like I would my own. I was recently honored with a request to be an ambassador for Trusted Housesitters.
I've cared for my own and others' cats, dogs, turtles, chickens, lizards, and fish in the US, UK, Continental Europe, and Asia. I am especially skilled in caring for cats; I am experienced in caring for both very young cats and special needs cats that are either excessively shy or elderly. My husband and I catered to the special medical and other needs of 'Blue', my sweet cat, who went to ‘kitty heaven” at age 22. Since then, we have fostered kitties from the local shelter, who are unadoptable due to quarantine or the need to be socialized. In addition, many of the cat owners that I housesit for also have a variety of other pets including chickens, fish, or reptiles.
My first housesit (THS 'Nina' reference below) was California with a chihuahua/ min pin, an older cat and a younger cat, 2 turtles, and 2 betta fish. I knew I'd been successful when the day after comforting the older cat who had become distressed overnight, he jumped up on the desk chair behind me to rub up against me, which was something that his owner said that he no longer did.
Since then, I've done over 20 house and pet sits for great homeowners and delightful pets! I've enjoyed the pets and made wonderful new (human) friends all over the world. I've had fun living like a local and, most importantly, the homeowners have all been delighted by the contentment of their pets and the condition of their homes upon their returns.
As someone who has hosted trusted house-sitters, and also hired paid pet sitters, I know what a pet owner needs to feel comfortable while they travel. I'd love to care for your furry family and enjoy 'living like a local' in your home.
