Hello, I'm Lauren (32)! I'm a freelance artist & owner of an online art/vintage shop
(( http://www.madebylaurenb.etsy.com )) living the nomad life in my grandpa's '92 Dodge Ramcharger. I'm a healthy & active non-smoker, non-drinker & I try to bring peaceful energy into where ever I roost. I was raised in the country but moved to the city as an adult so I enjoy both settings equally. I'm fortunate to have learned a healthy respect for the benefits & challenges of urban and rural living.
I'm new to the 'organized' house-sit community but I've been traveling my whole life. I was a tattoo artist for 10 yrs which allowed me to travel monthly all over the U.S. & Europe.
I share custody of a 4 y.o. welsh pembroke corgi named Walter with my good friend who lives in Omaha, NE. I try to look for housesit assignments when I don't have Walt with me. He's incredibly friendly & well behaved- he comes to work with me at a pet store & we are avid dog park participants. He loves dogs, cats, people, kids, & pretty much any other animals he may encounter. I may bring him along on longer sits if the situation is appropriate and ONLY with express permission from owners. At my last apartment, we hosted doggie daycare so I've also included my reviews from Rover.com below.
I usually draw and sketch my surroundings for a daily warm up & I always leave original artwork as a "thank you" for my host. It's the least I can do for providing me with new creative inspiration & surroundings!

Why I want to house sit
In short- I want to get my feet on as much of this earth as I can! I'm very fortunate to be able to run my business remotely so I'm trying to take full advantage of my freedom. I've also had years of informal experience which makes me far more comfortable than most in constantly changing surroundings.
In addition to being an artist & illustrator, I am vehemently passionate about history. I am fascinated with every story I hear when I travel & I want to find them ALL. I get endless inspiration in learning about new places & I have new art projects in the works that require creative fuel. I can find that fuel in just about any locale: museums, architecture, and city buzz are great. Equally, I can enjoy some peaceful solitude in the country where I can focus on my work. As long as there's an occasional internet signal & phone reception, I'm good to go.
I also absolutely love animals & jumping in on their routine helps me work. I usually walk my dog Walter a minimum 2-3 times per day which I've found is a perfect excuse to take a break. Animals also make GREAT subjects for warm up sketching (especially when they're asleep).
Learning is my true love. Traveling is what keeps this relationship alive & vibrant!
I have many years of experience staying with friends for extended periods while working out of town, while they are present or absent. I have plenty of friends who can vouch for me & I can provide references via email or text in addition to the references provided here on my profile. I've also grown accustomed to using Airbnb for travel accommodations & I've included my reviews below.

I'm an organized person & small business owner since 2006. I have reviews & ratings on my Etsy shop which has been open since 2009 (found here: http://www.madebylaurenb.etsy.com ) I organized every working trip I took wether it was solo or for groups of people. I'm a planner so I don't mind discussing plans well in advance. I also know all too well that plans change so I'm well equipped to roll with the punches! I believe that my experience is what serves me best & has taught me the most useful problem solving skills.
I've found the best way to solve a problem is to prevent it from happening in the first place. I'm an excellent communicator (a skill from my previous career) so if I have a question or if I don't know, I won't hesitate to ask. It's your castle so it's your rules! I want to make sure I understand them.
I've had pets all my life (dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, fish, hamsters, etc). Furry friends are great! I was raised in the countryside where several members of my family always kept horses. I'm a bit rusty on the finer points of equine maintenance but with a few instructions and a checklist I am more than competent. Same goes for livestock in general- I understand the importance of routine & I'm experienced with maintaining a standard for healthy, happy animals.
I've put a lot of work into training my 4 y.o. corgi which has taught me a great deal about dog behavior. It's not my intention to impose any training on anyone's animal (unless you're working on training! I'm more than happy to reinforce it). I do, however, come from a place of understanding which has nurtured my patience for pet behavior.
I believe common sense goes quite a long way but everyone has their own routine. I'm not much for a personal routine which makes it extremely easy to accommodate yours. If you give me a list, a timetable, or any organized parameters that you expect to maintain your household, it will be followed to a T. I have a lot of respect for a homeowner's personal space and property. My goal is to leave any place I stay at least as good if not better than how I found it.
I'm pretty handy & I was raised to work for what I'm provided. I have cursory carpentry , DIY household, & automotive maintenance skills (I can handle just about any task as long as there's a youtube tutorial!). I've also been an apartment gardener for several years so I can handle green critters, too.
I'm not much of a cook these days since my work keeps me pretty busy. However, I do have kitchen experience so I won't catch me pruning hedges with the good cutlery. I've got 13+ years experience in vintage and antique resale & restoration. Caring for fragile, expensive, rare, and irreplaceable items is my day job so I'll know how to take care of your stuff AND know when to ask if I don't. If you need any leather restored I'm happy to do it! I'm good at it and I enjoy helping out. I'm also decent with fabric, upholstery, & rug repair depending on the job.

Lauren was great! She treated my dog like her own. I'll definitely bring Riley back for doggy day care soon!

Lauren, her boyfriend and her corgi, Walter were wonderful with our pug puppy, Moose! She sent us lots of pictures and updates during his stay. He came home completely tuckered out which we are so grateful for! Would definitely recommend her and will be using her if we come to STL again.

Lauren and Big Walt are two of the raddest creatures I have the pleasure of knowing.
About Walt: he's a happy, playful, friendly little gent. I dogsat him while his parents were away and he was a delight - perfectly behaved, sweet natured, and chill. I live in a cul de sac where the majority of us own dogs and Walt was a wonderful visiting addition to the canine crew.
About Lauren: she is a devoted doggie Mom, she's a trusted, kind and generous friend to many. I would without hesitation entrust her with my kids (fur babies or progeny.)
These two are awesome!

I believe that an animal's personality and temperament is affected by their owner and the environment in which they were raised. Walter the Wonder Corgi is a sweet, loving, boisterous little guy, who absolutely reflects the unconditional love and care that was shown to him by Lauren. Walter is a precious member of Lauren's family, and she makes every effort to show him he's an adorably tough superhero. Lauren is a deeply sensitive and talented artist, and she creates a lot of happiness with her work. Best dog mom, and an amazing friend, too.

Lauren is one of the most caring and kind pet owners I know. She treats her dog (and my dogs) with love and respect, like they are part of the family! I am very protective of my dogs, they are just as important to me as my child. I trust Lauren more than anyone else to care for them. She is responsible, friendly and loving; perfect for caring for your pet! Highly recommended by my family.

Very ver nice couple. When I opened the front door to let them in my house. I told them I HAD AN EMERGENCY. A humming bird was in my living room trying to fly out the big window to his home in the tree whis is right next to the same window (only it's on the other side of the glass. They immediately went into Emergency First Responder mode. And in a few minutes the frantic little humming bird got out into nature and to his/her home SAFE & UNHARMED.

"I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Lauren while she was in Tulsa but she was certainly pleasant and self sufficient. She came to Tulsa for a tattoo convention so she was booked with business for the trip. As a guest, she left the apartment in good condition and was easy to work with. I hope she comes back on a future trip and we have a chance to meet in person."

"Lauren and her friends were nice and considerate guests."
From Copenhagen, Denmark · May 2015
"Lauren and her boyfriend are very friendly and careful people. Communication was very easy and Lauren replied promptly and gave me a notice of any small change of plans, which was very nice. My apartment was left in a good condition and now I am also the happy owner of one of her art pieces."
From Long Beach, CA · June 2015
"Lauren was really sweet and very personable right out the gate. Laid back and go with the flow, Lauren was the first to arrive......a few hours Early and I was running behind As I was installing my air conditioning unit for the hot summer nights that will inevitably come here in Sunny So cal! As a matter of fact when she got back in at 2 I was still finishing my install Lauren just went for a post flight nap with which she awoke to the house finally empty and the a/c blowing full blast thru the house. The whole time she and her girlfriends were at my place I only got sweet texts saying how much they loved my place.... Such easy breezy guests they were a delight. Upon checkout I got to meet Laurens friend eva who was also super sweet........ It seemed eva was having a later flight and wanted to leave her luggage till the late afternoon....I let her keep hold of the keys so she could grab the bags even if I wasn't there. After they went back out I proceeded to clean up my already cleaned up apartment....... They had done such a awesome job that I had to cancel the helper I had scheduled! God bless these sweet neat and tidy group of respectful souls......I can only hope the next guests will be half as awesome as Lauren and her group."
