I am a 64-year-old female history professor. I love travel and I love exploring new neighborhoods. I also love animals and they usually "take to" me. I am hyper-responsible about living things. Though I am very much a cat person, I also love dogs, birds, fish, and mild-mannered chickens.
In addition to teaching and writing about history, I am a musician and a photographer. I am a mom with two college age kids -- a daughter and a son -- , who are also good with animals. I will always specify if I hope to house sit alone or as a family unit, and I will always follow the owner's preference.
Why I want to house sit
I love to travel and learn about new communities. As a photographer, I crave new subjects, and as a writer, I like long stretches of open time near a tea kettle. Hotels are fun but can be impersonal. Housesitting opens a world of possibilities that are hard to match in tourist accommodations. I will be on sabbatical in Europe, from September 2017 to May 2018, and I am open to pet-sitting and house-sitting anywhere in that region.
My experience
I have had pets all my life, and I have sometimes cared for friends' pets as well. I tune in to animals and I can generally tell if they want or need something, although discerning what that might be in the moment can be challenging! I prefer having some creature in my lap when I am sitting. I am a walker and am happy to take dogs on jaunts. I am also gentle with other people's appliances and furniture. I don't smoke and I try to live lightly on the earth.

We have known Mina for years, she lives near us and regularly takes care of our cats (x3, one elderly requiring special care). Before we acquired a mean rooster, she also cared for our small flock of chickens when we were away. Mina loves animals, cats especially, and I never worry when she is on duty for ours. She is a history professor, a young 60, who loves traveling on a budget. She is completely dependable and cares for our animals as though they were her own. I recommend her without reservation.
