We are a professional couple that chose to retire early to travel and explore the world. We have traveled extensively and enjoyed volunteering both at home and abroad. We raised 3 children and multiple dogs and cats as well as other critters in our 40+ years of marriage. When our last beloved pet ( a 13 year old English mastiff ) died we decided that instead of committing to owning another pet, we would look for opportunities that would give us the chance to get our " pet fix" along with travel. Trusted Housesitters seemed like a perfect fit. In addition to pet care, we have experience as caretakers for private properties in the states as well as the Caribbean. Dan is also a Master Gardner, which is a great asset, and we both enjoy caring for and maintaining gardens and property.
Why we want to house sit
When we travel we prefer to immerse ourselves in local culture vs. staying in hotels and resorts. We see house and pet sitting as a good way to experience this. We believe offering our services through Trusted Housesitters can be a "win-win" for us as well as those seeking a reliable and experienced mature couple to care for their pets and home.
Our experience
We live on a small acreage outside Eugene, Oregon. We have had multiple cats and dogs over the years from large to small as well as other critters such as rabbits, pet mice and guinea pigs. Stephanie has been a volunteer at the local animal shelter for several years as a dog walker. For six months in 2016-17 we were house sitters for a property in the Virgin Islands with a resident cat named Slim. Along with caring for and loving Slim, we were responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of 3 homes on the same property. In addition, We have frequently provided temporary vacation care for friend's and other family members pets - either in their own homes or ours.
We have always seen our pets as vital members of our family. The hardest part of being a pet owner is losing them. We hope you will see us as competent and compassionate people who will care for your home and pets as if they were our own.

Stephanie and Dan took care of my 3 cockers for 10 days in October 2017.
The dogs were well exercised and very well cared for. They were happy to see me when I came home, but unhappy to see Stephanie and Dan leave. There is no higher praise.

I came home to a house that was cleaner than it was when I left it, and I left it clean!
And to top it all off, they are really nice people. Already I have asked if they would ever consider repeating the sit.

Stephanie would be a great house/pet sitter. I have known and worked with her for 29 years. In addition she has on occassion cared for my dog.

I have known Stephanie and Dan for years. They have been incredibly helpful in ensuring that our dogs Eva and Kya are well cared for when we are away from home. Additionally we also opperate a whole house Airbnb rental, and Stephanie and Dan both have helped clean and maintain the home when we've been unable to and have been out of town. They even have picked fresh flowers for our guests. Their reliability and trustworthiness has been much appreciated over the years. Would highly recommend them to anybody.

I've known them in the capacity of care takers for a beautiful Caribbean villas on the island of St. John & I've visited their lovely home in Eugene where it is evident that they both take great pride in maintaining it as well as constantly making improvements to it. Having care taken a multi million dollar property on St. John myself I would highly recommend Stephanie & Dan to anyone seeking a couple to watch over their valuable property.

This is how I got to experience in first person the amazing and loving care they took of our space and belongings and all the positive energy they spread all around!
