About Cathy & Paul

Paul and I live on five acres on the outskirts of a beautiful little town in southern Oregon USA, called Ashland. Paul is a native New Zealander who has lived in the United States since 1980. I was raised in a military family so my childhood was spent moving from city to city. As a 22 year old I moved to southern Oregon and have lived here for nearly 40 years as well.
We are so fortunate to live in an area that has the rich beauty of a lovely valley and is a cultural hub that supports the arts. Paul retired from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival five years ago after serving the organization for 33 years. I am a retired educator who worked as a teacher and school administrator. We both were so lucky to have found careers that filled us both intellectually and emotionally.
Traveling has always been a passion for us but in the years since retirement it has been one of my main focuses. In addition to traveling we have a lovely home with many gardens that we joyfully tend. Outdoor activities such as hiking and camping also give us great joy. Paul is also very involved in Boards that support our community health center and local university. In my spare time I enjoy painting in watercolor and acrylics.
Our family includes three grown children who have given us five precious grandchildren. Unfortunately they are based in Atlanta and Sydney, Australia so we are unable to see them see them as often as we would like. But with modern technology we are able to FaceTime them on a regular basis which is a terrific way to stay connected. In addition to the children our other family member is a nearly 20-year-old calico cat named Kiri. She brings such great joy to our lives and we worry how we will get along without her when she departs our world.
There’s hardly a day that we do not look at each other and feel so blessed that our lives are so full.
Why we want to house sit
We have recently decided that we want to make some of our travel adventures those with a specific purpose. The trips that we have taken with our Rotary group to support our sister city in Mexico in the areas of housing and clean water have filled us greatly. When we discovered the TrustedHousesitters we immediately thought this would be another opportunity to provide a service to others. We love the idea of meeting new people and settling into a new community that involves around caring for the homes and pets of others.
Our experience
While we do not have any official house sitting and pet care experience we do have a combined experience of 90 + years responsibly caring for our own homes and our own pets. We also have many years of caring for the homes and pets of friends. We are people who make it a habit of responsible living and we hope that you find the above experience suitable for your needs.

We've know Cathy for 17 years. She first impressed us as a neighbor who worked hours on her new home and beautiful garden. We acquired cats at the same time and exchanged cat care when either of us was traveling. Cathy was always a wonderful caregiver for our cat. She's since moved into a new home with an even bigger garden and continues to maintain everything meticulously.
