A little bit about me... I grew up outside of Memphis, Tennessee with 5 siblings and 2 amazing parents. I am a triplet. I have always loved animals and have 3 dogs of my own and 2 horses. I teach people how to ride and care for horses, my favorite part about teaching is when it "clicks" for a student, when they finally understand, there is nothing more satisfying! I love to be outside. I love hiking with my dogs, and of course riding horses- trail riding takes the cake for me these days. I am in the process of getting one of my dogs certified as a therapy dog. I have rescued all of my dogs and have experience fostering dogs as well. Fostering is incredibly hard, but so worth it when you find the right home for your foster. I graduated a film tech school and still dabble in that, though my career is in horses, I still love to be creative. I love trying new things and getting out of my comfort zone a bit. I believe in taking every opportunity you can get because you never know where it can take you. I never imagined I would get a job in another country and make the big move, but now here I am, planning for it all and it only drives me to keep climbing upwards!
Why I want to house sit
Personally, I want to house sit because it will give me a better idea on what it is really like to live in Costa Rica. For example, I love Airbnb because it's makes staying somewhere that much more authentic. You build a relationship with the owner and they generally have suggestions on where to go/what to try. Getting to stay in someone else's home makes you take pride in your opportunity too. It will keep me humble and perhaps one day I'll be fortunate enough to build my dream home in Costa Rica after gaining experience in taking care of one.
After I saw the women at the circus dancing on the backs of horses for the first time, I immediately fell in love. I was 8 years old when I received riding lessons for Christmas and since then, I have ran with it. I am now a Horseback Riding Instructor at my family's farm in Eads, TN, just outside of Memphis.
With 15+ years of experience with horses, I am confident in caring for your equine needs. I have experience with daily care: feed, water, hay, cleaning stalls, and turnout. First-Aid wise, I can cold hose, apply ointment, wrap legs, pack feet, give intra-muscular injections, wormer, etc. I can groom, pull manes, basic clip (muzzle ears, fetlocks, bridle path), and bathe. I am experienced in riding/longeing horses and teaching people of all ages to ride.
Currently, I am working on getting my first-aid/cpr certification for cats and dogs. We have always had cats and dogs in the household growing up. Now, as an adult I have 3 dogs that I love with all my heart. I have experience fostering and rehoming both cats and dogs. I have cared for dogs who have needed special medical attention. I have experience with both small and large breeds. I am the known house/pet sitter in the neighborhood from horses, to dogs and cats, and occasionally pigs and chickens though, my experience with the latter is limited. My family has owned a peacock which I have cared for in the past, but that is limited care- feed, water, and cleaning the bedding. My family has owned love birds and bunnies in the past too, both I understand the basic care, but do not know the ins and outs like I do with horses, for example.
Generally when I am pet sitting it goes hand in hand with house sitting. So far, I have been blessed to not have any mishaps, but in an emergency situation I am confident I can handle myself and make the right calls to ensure the security of your home and safety of your pets. I make sure before owners leave their home that I have all emergency contacts, vet info, alarm settings, etc.
I have been to Costa Rica 4 times now and am making the move in January for a job as a Horseback Riding Instructor and Trail Guide. I believe myself to be a professional, responsible, and caring individual and hope you give me the opportunity to care for your home and pets!
