Hi there! I'm Marta and thank you for visiting my profile. It's a long one but it should answer most questions you may have about my ability to care for your furry family and home.
I'm originally from Orlando, FL; aka- the land of Mickey. Thanks to some careful planning and a few thrifty years, I've been able to take a career break and am currently exploring the world and making deeper connections in communities with the help of THS. I have used THS since October 2015, and as of June 2018, I will have completed over 30 pet care assignments in 10 countries just using the THS site. I have completed almost as many others for friends and family and a few other pet sitting sites.
I'm mid-30's and in my "normal" life, an HR Manager by profession (Human Resources/Personnel), with responsibilities of 1,100+ people. I'm also a non-smoker (of any kind, even in Seattle) and a previous home-owner and landlord, so I'm used to taking care of a property through housekeeping and general maintenance. I am not vegetarian but if your home is, I have no concerns following such a diet while caring for your family and home. Honestly, I already cook/eat as such about 4 days a week.
It has been a few years since I've had my own pet but I grew up with cats, dogs, and hamsters. For the year prior to my travels, my roommate had a Lab mix that I helped take care of in addition to helping many friends and family care for their furry loved ones while they went away from home.
In November 2016, after 21 months of travel around the world, I returned (mostly) to the USA. I can't decide if I want to acclimate back to "normal" life (hence why there are so many sits in/around Seattle) or jump back into travel while working as a Digital Nomad and become truly location independent, but I'm enjoying the newest ride either way through pet sitting... it's anyone's guess whether I'll have my suitcase or my backpack with me.
As I'm already out of my "home" area, I am not having the easiest time getting my criminal check *spoiler- there is nothing. And, I'll be honest, I've been on THS long before they offered the paid option through a 3rd party. I would be glad to provide information to perform a check on the open criminal search engines for Florida or send you the information myself. I am TSA precheck and Global Entry cleared (USA).
Why I want to house sit
I love that I discovered this site while looking for an inventive way to slow down while on my amazing journey and it allowed for more of an honest experience in some of the locations I traveled to. And, I love meeting fellow travelers and pet lovers and enjoy keeping in touch after our paths have crossed; this really is the best community. I'm open to most assignments and given enough notice, I can adjust my travel plans. Since I am responsible for the travel to/from, I focus on opportunities that are longer in nature to minimize travel costs and dial in on an area, truly connect with the furry family, and don't disrupt my work habits too much. You can see from my history, most are 10-days to a month in length.
Since returning back Stateside, I have started working for a friend's company remotely so, I guess you could say I fell into being location independent by default. This means that I have the ability to work from anywhere I have WiFi, so there are also lots of times during my stays where I am at "home" for extended lengths of time. And, I do some of my best work with dogs by feet and kitties on my lap...or looking over my shoulder.
My experience
I have helped out many friends with their furry families- even new friends I made around the world! I have been asked multiple times by families to return again to watch their home and furry children which I consider the best compliment. I am quite used to the varied personalities of both cats and dogs.....obviously more personallity (read: sassiness) with cats.
I have no concerns with adhering to schedules for play, brushing, and treats. I am confident administering medication and have been responsible for serving both raw and cooked food to pets outside of the normal bag and can variety. I have even taken pets to routine vet visits on longer stays. If there are common health issues with your furry child or their breed, I can verse myself in the particulars if there are concerns so I can be on the lookout and stay calm in emergency situations.
I consider myself active and enjoy walks (or even jogging) with dogs. If available in your area, I love to go on nature trails with them. I am also used to walking multiple dogs at once, including those with aggressions concerns. I am happy to spend time at doggy parks or daycare, but I do not have a car.
I sold my car before the big trip and rarely do a rental for long lengths of time, so I usually look and apply for opportunities in cities with public transportation options. I have been added to car insurance coverage on multiple house sits and have a clean driving record and valid driver's license from Florida DMV. I had an international driving permit for 2 years but due to my current travel needs, it has lapsed. I have driven both left and right-side without any concerns using both automatic and manual vehicles. *bonus points- I can parallel park, too.

Marta is a lifesaver! When our dog Franklin hurt his back and needed surgery, I thought I might have to cancel my trip. I couldn't imaging finding someone who would be vigilant about making sure he didn't re-injure himself during his recovery. But Marta had experience with this type of back inju...
Marta is a lifesaver! When our dog Franklin hurt his back and needed surgery, I thought I might have to cancel my trip. I couldn't imaging finding someone who would be vigilant about making sure he didn't re-injure himself during his recovery. But Marta had experience with this type of back injury; she understood the importance of restricting his movements, and she went the extra mile to keep his recovery on track. We had concerns about leaving Franklin for so long, but Marta worked with us all the way. We came home to a clean house and a happy dog!

Highly recommend Marta, she has watched our place twice now and we would gladly invite her back! Our home was clean and our kitty was happy when we returned, Marta provided daily updates and photos.

I love watching Mochi for Josh and Sarah. She's easy to care for and I feel like I'm at a fabulous retreat while in their home with all of the furnishings and they leave the best guest toiletries. The location is A+.

Marta is a great housesitter. She has stayed at my house and taken care of my dog three times. I would welcome her to stay in the future. I have no worries when I am away and Marta is taking care of my home and dog. I recommend her without reservation.
