About Meg & Jake
As a retired couple, we love our home in Seattle but are finally seeing the world. We’re responsible, conscientious, trustworthy, and non-smoking. We’ve owned our treasured home for 30 years, sharing our space and life over the years with children, cats, and dogs. We’d be happy to care for your home and pets with the same love and high standards...
As a retired couple, we love our home in Seattle but are finally seeing the world. We’re responsible, conscientious, trustworthy, and non-smoking. We’ve owned our treasured home for 30 years, sharing our space and life over the years with children, cats, and dogs. We’d be happy to care for your home and pets with the same love and high standards we have for ours.
We like to stay in touch, by phone or text or email, FaceTime or Skype. We know what a relief it is to receive a photo of our happy pet while we’re away!
Our availability will always have to coordinate with house sitters to care for our house and pet while we’re away.
Why we want to house sit
After Airbnb-ing for several years on several continents, we find we’re happiest living like locals, with time to relax and explore from a base that feels like home. So much better than just being tourists! Better still to have a furry friend along the way, since we miss our cat Beanie, who stays home while we’re away (with a trusted housesitter!).
We bring a variety of skills and abilities. Jake had 3 careers, as boat builder, salmon fisherman in Alaska, and IT network manager. He’s sailed extensively and has various building remodels to his credit. He likes things to work well, noticing when they don’t and finding a fix. From his years of crisis management, he’s an awesome problem-solver with the skill to fix many things and the knowledge to not fix things he can’t.
Meg was a dance and classroom teacher in public schools, so she has an inordinate amount of patience. Having always been a gardener and pet owner, she appreciates having living things around her to nurture.
We’re orderly, organized, and value cleanliness! Over our years, both of us have gained independence from self-employment, as well as the ability to play well with others from being employed.
We like to settle into a community when we’re traveling, unpack our bags, get to know local markets, cook our own meals, and come back at the end of our exploring to the comforts of home, including the four-legged kind. Our mornings tend to be quiet: reading, writing, and catching up on news, after which we venture out to see the world. We tend to be home for dinner or shortly after, for unwinding into the evening.
We’ve just found TrustedHousesitters and are just beginning on this site, although we have many reviews from Airbnb hosts.
Here's a sampling:
“Meg and Jake were the first guests we were not home to greet. They were quick to respond to messages and considerate in letting us know when they were arriving. A friend was kind enough to clean after they left. She said it was so easy you could hardly tell they had been there!” Bellingham, WA June 2015
“Jake and Meg were excellent guests. They arrived in time, stayed 1 month at our apartment, and left everything spotless. They're very easy-going and nice people, and would definitely recommend them to any host. Hope we meet again in the future!” Montevideo March 2015
“Todo perfecto, es una pareja muy agradable, aunque no los pude conocer, estuvimos en contacto y fueron muy atentos…” Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay March 2015
“Jake and Meg were delightful guests--friendly, courteous, communicative, and respectful for the property. There aren't enough positive adjectives to describe them! I would definitely recommend them to anyone thinking of hosting them; they're 5-star.” San Francisco January 2015
“Jake and his partner were fabulous guests. Because I am not on the property and don't get to meet my guests, I really appreciate good communicators. Jake was above and beyond, even giving me a heads up on a minor plumbing situation so I could resolve it before it became a real problem. Jake was appreciative of the space and left it spotless. A big Mahalo!!” Kauai January 2014
“Jake & Meg stayed at our apartment for about a week as they did an amazing trip through Europe and we were extremely happy to have them as guest. I personally never met them but they were fantastic to communicate via email or text. 2 of my friends welcomed them and they said they are fantastic people and really enjoyed having a chat with them. They left the apartment in such a perfect state that my housekeeper doesn't even know what to do :) Also they left a little guide book for us & future guest and left an amazing thank you letter. We are more then gladly welcome them back in our house at any given time or notice they are the best guest we ever had! Thanks for staying and safe travels!” Amsterdam May 2014
“Lovely to meet and host! Wonderful guests... Super friendly, very nice people. They have been very communicative... They took good care of everything in the place, were super tidy, clean and very quiet. We really hope to see you again in Sicily... Grazie!” Marsala, Sicily April 2014
“We had a fabulous time with Jake and Meg. We shared several meals and had great conversations. It was great having strangers show up and turn into friends! We look forward to seeing them in Seattle in August!! You couldn't ask for better guests.” Quito, Ecuador June 2013
“We have been very pleased to have Jake and Meg in Our place. They are experienced travelers and know how to handle unforeseen situations. We have had no problem communicating or interacting with them. They appreciate simple things of life and that has contributed to make their stay memorable. They both are easy to please and that has made our job easier. They will be welcomed any time. We can recommend them with no hesitation to any host.” Cuenca, Ecuador July 2013
