Lake Macquarie Living
I am a retired high school teacher. I live by myself since my husband entered Aged Care as a result of a stroke suffered 9 years ago. My companion is a rescue dog called Barney. He is a 10 year old Maltese Cross and has been with me for the last 3 years. I am a keen bridge player, gardener and bowler but also like to travel. My daughter lives in Queensland and I like to visit the family there. I need a house and dog sitter as Barney is safe and happy in his new home. I have had house sitters to look after him previously. They have unfortunately left Barney for extended periods during the days. I do go out but am usually away for around 3 hours and a maximum of 6 hours.
Our Home & Location
My house is a 3 bedroom cement rendered duplex in a bushland setting. Sitting on the patio listening to the birds with a coffee is an enjoyable pastime any time of day.
It is a short walk to parkland edging Lake Macquarie and a 5 minute drive to the cafes at Warner’s Bay and walking and cycling tracks. To the east are the beaches at Redhead, Blacksmiths and Caves and Newcastle city is a 20 minute drive away. The local Valentine Bowling Club is a popular eating place and the large shopping complex at Charlestown is 10-15 minutes away. Supermarkets are located at Warner’s Bay, Belmont and Mount Hutton, all nearby. Further afield are the Hunter Valley Vineyards and Port Stephens....
Your bedroom has a Queen-size bed and storage in a built-in wardrobe with bathroom and toilet next door. The living area is large with timber-floored lounge room and a casual tiled family area and kitchen. TVs in lounge room and family room. Wifi available. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
The house itself is on a shared driveway with 2 other houses at the end of a cul-de-sac. The driveway is to be kept clear for other cars but extra parking is on a grassed area near the front door. Vacuuming the floors once a week, mopping tiles and cleaning bathroom are the main housekeeping required. Hosing the garden edging the driveway once a week if no rain.
Barney has 2 walks a day to the end of the street. He also eats twice a day and is allowed to sleep anywhere he likes. He has a doggy door to the outside for toileting day and night....
Barney has a ‘bad’ habit of eating pieces of clothes etc so I keep all bedroom doors shut and do not leave anything on chairs etc in the living area. He stays inside when I am out but frets (shakes)when I am about to leave. He also barks on my return but only for a short time. Not to deter potential dog sitters, he is a very friendly, cuddly dog who really enjoys his walks and companionship. + More info
