Baulkham Hills, (The Hills District), Sydney NSW
Mick and I are a retired couple living in Baulkham Hills, Sydney, Australia. Mick was a university lecturer and I was a change manager. We were also high school teachers in earlier careers - maths and PE.
Now we have retired we are looking to enjoy some holidays away visiting our grandchildren in other states. Our dog Diesel is getting on in years so we want to leave him in his own home with his comfortable surroundings....
We are first timers and new to Trusted House Sitters – my brother and his wife are frequent house sitters, so we’ve heard all about this wonderful program. We are very keen to commence this new journey. + More info
Our Home & Location
Baulkham Hills is a large leafy suburban area in Sydney's northwest corridor - about 25kms from the Sydney CBD. There is a mix of older 40-50 year old housing, newly renovated homes and now recent apartment buildings along arterial roads. It has public transport - an excellent express bus into the Sydney CBD, local buses to neighbouring historical Parramatta and Castle Hill.
In summer we drive to a variety of Sydney beaches for an early morning swim - approximately 50 minutes. There is an excellent local outdoor 50 metre swimming pool (heated) close by - a 10 minute walk....
There are some stunning bush walks in the suburb including Lake Parramatta and Excelsior Avenue walks.
We are close to many churches including Hillsong - Hills Campus. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
* Care for Diesel the Greyhound - very short daily walks, feed and water, and generally hang out with him for company.
* Keep an eye on the vegetable garden and lawns - if it's really dry weather water daily....
Our home is a modest and comfortable fifty year old red brick single story - three bedrooms and study. It's been a cherished family home for a long time - the kids have all moved out.
We share our rumbly old home with an adopted retired racing Greyhound called Diesel – the ‘lord of the manor’ of course. Diesel is 8 years old now with some distinguished grey hairs to prove it.
He has a big back garden to explore but much prefers being inside all day and night with you - and of course he is allowed on all the lounges – and will try to convince you he is allowed on beds as well. He sleeps, snoozes, rests, relaxes, meditates and generally enjoys peace and serenity 23/24 hours.
He loves a short lazy 30 minute ‘smell the roses’ walk (approx 1km) morning and evening – but will settle for one slightly longer walk every day. And there are some great local walk paths. He’s never ever ever allowed off the lead at any time, or anywhere, because he might just chase something that takes his interest.
And he’d sell his soul for some cheese on toast with you at Breakfast. + More info
