Dog lovers, come spend a month on the NSW North Coast!
My name is April and I live with my husband, Jamie and our two sons, Hamish and Arlo, In Lismore NSW. We live in a beautiful, renovated Queenslander that is walking distance into town. I am a lawyer and Jamie is a civil engineer. We were both born overseas and love travelling back to see our families. We have 3 Australian Cattle Dogs - Barkley (who is deaf), Delta (who is 11 and going a little bit blind) and Ruby. Our dogs are lovable and spend most of the day lying around indoors on the leather sofas.
Our Home & Location
Our home is a beautiful old Queenslander with 14 foot ceilings, timber floors, a large deck with views over the town and out to the hills. It has 3 bedrooms (2 with queen sized beds), an enclosed verandah, 2 bathrooms and a lovely garden with fruit trees. We have ceiling fans, a dishwasher and a large freestanding SMEG stove/oven. The house has recently been painted white throughout and styled nicely with high quality furniture and finishes.
We are walking distance to the centre of Lismore which is about 900m away. Lismore is a town of about 40,000 people that has a thriving arts scene. It is also the gateway to the North Coast with Byron Bay being about 35 minutes' drive away.
Responsibilities & Pets
Our dogs are quite low maintenance and just require one or two walks per day. Overall, they love company and will just trail around following you all day, in particular Barkley, our deaf dog. They are allowed inside and will curl up next to you on the sofa or lay at your feet. Although they are a breed of working dog, they have never lived on a rural property and because they are getting older, do not require excessive exercise.
They are used to all being walked together (with a pram) so are good on the lead....
Barkley is deaf and has been since birth. He is a very spirited dog and will try and test you when he first meets you (by following you into the bathroom, etc). He likes to sleep with you in the bed so he knows where you are. Sometimes he can bark excessively when he first meets you or just before a walk, so we have a citronella barking collar we use sometimes which stops that.
Ruby and Delta have no special needs. Delta is going blind as she is 11 so occasionally runs into doors if the light is low. + More info
