I have gorgeous animals that love company - but I love to travel. In the past my dad and friends have come and stayed with my animals, but I am now wanting to travel more frequently and for longer periods. I am a shift worker, so my animals are not set into routines - because my shifts are all over the place. My unit is suited to a single or a couple - as this is what the animals are most used to. And generally when I like to travel is outside of the school holidays.
I am in the preliminary stages of planning my next trip in late April / May. This is actually the start of the nice weather in Cairns.
Our Home & Location
Hi - my townhouse is situated in a gated unit complex, consisting of 16 townhouses. It is about 3 km from the Cairns CBD and can be walked easily on bike paths. The Cairns Esplanade is also only a few blocks over to the east. The complex is quiet and secure and has a swimming pool for use by occupants.
My townhouse is 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. Fully air conditioned. However I only utilise 2 bedrooms - the third is a spare that doesn't contain a bed. Both bedrooms are of a good size with queen size beds. My unit also has an enclosed patio area - which allows the unit to stay open most of the time and allow the breezes in. For about 6 months I did AIRBNB with the room that is utilised by the sitters and basically stopped as I was worn out working and looking after guests....
Near by is the Edge Hill area - that has a village atmosphere and great restaurants. The Red, Blue and Green arrow walking tracks. The airport Domestic and International airport is nearby - and the Kuranda tourist train goes past 4 times a day.
Use of the car - is negotiable. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
The animals reside in the townhouse, so you need to be comfortable in sharing the space with animals. Guiness the dog requires walking at least three times a day morning and evening to allow for toileting and exercise (she is toilet trained and is very good in the unit). However she is needing to go more often. She is elderly (18 & 5 mths) and loves the company of people. She also loves to sleep on the end of the bed and in the bedroom in her bed. She is a good sleeper generally. But due to her age now has mild dementia, like in a human this is not treatable. This is usually most recognizable at night. She generally sleeps in a bed on the floor in my room now, with a night light that seems to ease the problem. I don't use medication on her. Occasionally she stirs and I move her onto the end of the bed and she goes back to sleep. This works for me. She also loves traveling in the car and is very well behaved - but now due to her age she can't walk for any great distance.
The cats are Ragdolls and also love company. India is quite standoffish and a one person cat. She tolerates new people in her environment - but hates loud noises. My bedroom is her safe haven and therefore cannot be used by any guests as a bedroom. All animals tend to go in here as a safe place....
The cat litter trays need cleaning out daily - as they are located inside the unit.
All animals are fed morning and night.
There is a small courtyard and if it is not raining the plants need to watered daily - but only for a short period.
There is the possibility that Guiness can attend dog daycare a couple of times a week, not everyday (Too exhausting for her). Which then allows some time to get out an explore. They are open from 7am to 6pm. + More info
