pet/house sitter needed for Yogi the Shepherd for about 3-4 weeks in Melbourne- AUG-SEPT 2019
I am seeking a house sitter (preferably couple or single confident with large dog) for around 3-4 weeks ( approx- 20 AUG-15 Sept 2019) to house sit my house, walk and look after my 7YO German Shepherd Yogi. Ideally I am looking for a Melbourne/Victoria based person or someone available to visit before I leave to get familiar with house and Yogi. He is a very big boy (about 50 KGs) and quite energetic and playful, although as he as got a little older he doesn't really need the 5 plus KM walks I used to do with him daily but still loves a long meandering wander. He has loving friendly nature and loves the company of people-he will follow you around like a shadow and loves companionship ! Need someone/couple who do not need to be out at work/away from house most days IE are able to spend most days/nights at the house as Yogi craves the companionship and will pine and fret otherwise. Trips away for a few hours daytime /occasional nights out all good. West suburbs of Melbourne (Wyndham Vale area)(Yogi will happily travel in a car if you wish to take him for a walk to nearby wilderness areas)
Our Home & Location
My Home is located in quiet residential street directly opposite a huge park/wetland area where a Yogi can be walked. (on Leash at all times)There are many walking paths and one that follows a long creek nearby is very nice and scenic. House has wifi and cable TV and all usual amenities- renovated kitchen and bathroom. House located 3-5 mins from supermarkets and local shops and restaurants and about 25 KMs to Melbourne city centre. 45 mins drive to surf coast areas past Geelong.
Responsibilities & Pets
Walk dog at least twice a day and feed him once a day. Yogi is around 50 KGs and very strong. He is basically trained OK but if he sees a cat while out walking...then he is after it, so you must be confident in handling/holding a large dog and alert the whole time while walking him. On occasion he will act out towards other dogs while out walking, mainly large dogs and its recommended that you mostly avoid close contact with other dogs while walking him. Other people including young children are perfectly fine while walking and yogi will stand patiently while young children prod and poke him. Keep house tidy and well maintained. Collect mail. if you are into gardening then feel free to dig out some weeds and maintain front and back yards.
I also have a pet Bredli python in an enclosure but house sitter will have no formal duties regarding him beyond admiring him although if confident you can take him out and handle him. I can advise you on this procedure if you want)
