Various dates required for housesitting and a gorgeous chocolate labrador called Monty!
Hi there. We are a small family (2 adults and 15yr old daughter and of course Monty!) who emigrated from Devon in the UK to live in NZ and now living in another beautiful part of the world on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. Enjoy travelling so who knows by joining this website will have more opportunity and chance to make some like-minded, animal loving friends!
Our Home & Location
Our house is a modern 4-bedroomed single storey house with a separate study nook, laundry room and butler's pantry. We are a 5 minute drive (20 minute walk to the beautiful Mount Martha beach and a 20 minute drive to the famous wineries area of Red Hill - some recommended ones would be Montalto, Tucks Ridge and Red Hill Estate for the views however there are so many that we have not been to yet! Also the Epicurean in Red Hill is a great coffee stop and do good woodfired pizzas!). Local town is Mornington (10 minutes drive away which has an abundance of great cafes and eating places - popular with tourists). Surrounded by stunning beaches and great walks. House has a sheltered outdoor eating area and has a pool and spa with a distant sea view from the back garden. Local towns can be reached by bus and Melbourne city by train from Frankston (1 hour by train and cheap!), however would recommend car hire for driving to the beautiful coastal towns such as Sorrento to make the most of your stay. Regarding public transport, there are local buses that leave from various stops in Somerset Drive (next road to us). To plan a journey using public transport look up the following website; ptv.vic.gov.au/journey planner. Other recommended places would be the Peninsula Hot Springs, the cable car at Arthur's Seat provides beautiful views of Port Phillip Bay and the Enchanted Adventure Garden is a great day out for a family but be sure to take a picnic. Also the Sunny Ridge Strawberry farm in Red Hill is great place for coffee and deserts but gets incredibly busy in the school holidays. There are so many good eating places on the Mornington Peninsula it is difficult to know where to start. Mr Curtis in Mount Martha is great for nibbles, casual dining and if you can grab a seat on the balcony, has lovely views. It is by the local shops in Mount Martha and is a good 20 minute walk from the house but be aware uphill on the way back. For a good Chinese eat in or take Away, try Wok on Bay in Mount Martha and for pizza a good take away (they also deliver for a small fee) is Via Sole Pizza in Walara Drive, Mount Martha and a couple of shops away from that is café 85 which does burgers and fish and chips (we will leave menus in a folder for your visit). The Rasoi Tandoori Indian Kitchen in Mount Martha does excellent food, however is a tiny restaurant so recommend you book in advance. Also at the local Mount Martha Shops is an IGA Supermarket. A bit more expensive than the bigger supermarkets such as Woolworths (closest is at Bentons Square which is our closest and there is also a Dan Murphys for wine and beers), Coles and Aldi who are located in Mornington, due to the convenience but you can get most things there. There is also a chemist (Amcal) based at the local shops which are located on the Esplanade across the road from the beach. There are also some good cafes there (we like the Higher Ground Cafe which is at the back of the shops next to the Post Office).
Responsibilities & Pets
Monty is a typical "cruisey" Labrador who loves human contact and food! He likes his walks and we take him for 2 x 1/2 hr walks a day but on some occasions only manage one which he is ok with. Is ok to be left alone outside during the day and sleeps inside in his huge bed at night time. Monty is fed once a day in the evening (and likes that odd treat however not too much as prone to putting on weight as a docile Labrador!)
