Winter Fun with Two Active Pups
I’m Lindsay. I live in Calgary with my husband Adam, our newest addition - our son, Caelan and our beloved dogs Troy & Helen. I’m on maternity leave at the moment. Adam is from the UK where we try to get back to visit every year or two. We are planing a trip back this December for Caelan’s first trip to the UK to meet his grandparents.
Troy & Helen are very pampered poochies. They are always up for an adventure whether it’s a hike, camping, skijoring, off leash romp, car rides, or a stroll to the shops. Now that I’m on maternity leave, we haven’t been quite as adventurous but they are spoiled with hours at the off leash park each day, lots of time in the yard, and constant human company....
Both dogs are rescues. Troy is a lab mix and is extremely loving. He has yet to meet a human he doesn’t like. He has a lovely nature and when he’s not tearing around the dog park, he can be found chewing on bones, patrolling for crumbs, snoozing, or sneaking under the covers of your bed.
Helen is a cattle dog mix. She is much more discerning with her taste in humans. For those she accepts into the inner circle of trust, she is incredibly cuddly, loyal, and full of character. She is very smart and has a busy mind. She needs an experienced dog person who can control her in a calm, assertive way. If she trusts and respects her handler, she’s an amazing dog. If not, she can be hard work. She has some anxiety so again, someone calm, patient, and confident us a great match for Helen.
Both dogs are great off leash. They have very high prey drives so I would keep them in a fenced area while off leash for your peace of mind. Both are great on leash, too. They love tagging along anywhere and everywhere. + More info
Our Home & Location
We live in a detached house in an older neighbourhood. We have 4 bedrooms & two full bathrooms. We have a large fenced backyard that’s great for dogs, adults, and kids.
We find our neighbourhood very walkable. There’s everything you need including pharmacy, grocery stores, coffee shops, restaurants, leisure centres, public transit (bus & train), mall, and more within 20 minutes walking. We are a 5 minute drive from a fantastic off leash (fenced) park with access to the Bow River. There’s also access to the Bow River Pathway there....
Driving, we are very accessible to major traffic routes and any other shopping or entertainment you’d need. You could get by without a car but definitely more within reach with a car. It’s about a 20 minute drive into downtown. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Our dogs get 1-2 hours of exercise and/or mental stimulation each day. We are out rain (or snow!j or shine each day. The dogs enjoy the cold weather and love the snow.
Poop patrol in the yard!...
They are fed raw food twice daily. We can outline how much each needs and how to prepare it. Their food comes in frozen patties so it’s easy enough to manage.
Both dogs shed so keeping the fur under control in the house with vacuumming a few times a week. Other than shedding, both dogs usually keep pretty clean so don’t need much grooming.
In the winter, we need someone to shovel the path if it snows. + More info
