Furry friends in the Canadian Rockies
Canmore in the Canadian Rocky Mountains is our home, and just 20 minutes to the more famous town of Banff. Chris and I are both from the UK and wanting to travel home together for the first time in many years; the dogs are our priority so we are seeking some mountain loving people to come and take care of them and enjoy everything this picture perfect location has to offer. Springtime comes late to us in the mountains and May/June is the time we see the last of the snow and the start of greenery. Bushes and trees will be coming to life and flowers will start to be planted once the last frost has gone. Don't worry it's not likely that the grass will be growing yet so shouldn't be any outdoor work involved (other than the obligatory pooh picking of course). There is lots of wildlife in the area, it's not uncommon to see elk while out walking, and occasionally deer. Bears are in the area but less visible (particularly on our side of town) and where we walk is called Cougar Creek for good reason but I haven't seen one in my 18 years here. Dogs must be on leash when out walking always, that's the by-law and we are happy to abide by it to keep our girls safe.
Our Home & Location
We live in a very modest home on the sunny side of of Canmore, just over an hour from Calgary airport in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Banff is 20 minutes away, Lake Louise just an hour. We are central to hundreds of walking / hiking / biking trails right from the front door and more just short drives away. There are lakes galore, river activities too for those looking for adventure. The town of Canmore has a neat downtown (15-20 minutes walk) but also convenience of a few big stores for groceries and household goods. The home is a 3 bedroom (one just storage) so you will have your own bedroom with mountain views, full bathroom, kitchen/diner, living area (with woodburning fireplace), there is a hottub outside with stunning mountain views. Likely the dogs will sleep in our bedroom. Large garden (which may or may not still be covered in snow!) The house is not fancy but bedroom and bathroom are renovated and everything else works well. End of May / early June is usually a sunny time of year (but not too hot), so perfect for sitting in the garden with a good book and enjoying a BBQ. We may be able to make a vehicle available but if you bring one there is plenty of parking.
Responsibilities & Pets
We have two girls, our senior Shadow is 10 and big puppy Bella who will turn 1 while we are gone, they are both rescues from the local SPCA. They are both house trained, friendly and love to be outside. We have a garden which they have access to all the while someone is home (dog door) and the Bella is crated when we are out, she goes in easily and is comfortable for up to 4 hours currently, could be longer by the time our trip is here. We do have access to people to come and let her out if you are on a long day trip (likely if you are out hiking). They will need at least 2 walks a day and Bella loves to go to the dog park a few times a week - it's only a few minutes from the house. There are many walks right from the house, up a local creek, down towards the townsite and a myriad of treed paths in between. They eat well and are not fussy with food, we are training Bella so would appreciate whoever comes in to continue with the cues and rewards we do currently. Both love to be cuddled but are also quite independent and will hang out alone or chill in the garden.Non smokers essential, references and criminal record check preferred.
