Rural dog and house sitting for the occasional weekend plus longer times up to a month at a time, all seasons.
My husband and I live 25 km east of Red Deer on a beautiful quarter section of land. We do not have farm animals now, but have two outside dogs who need TLC and walks or quad rides every day. We usually go away for two weeks in January, and are planning other trips for the fall and springtime. There are many walking trails on our property and cross country skiing or snowshoeing is a great option in winter.
Our Home & Location
It is rural and remote with the nearest neighbor about 1/2 mile away. The property is located on a paved hiway and has a 1/2 mile long gravel lane. The neighbor is available to plow the lane in winter and to help with any technical problems with the house. Having a reliable vehicle with winter tires or all wheel drive is essential as the roads get icy in winter. The nearest grocery store is 7km away.
Responsibilities & Pets
Sitter would feed the dogs, take them for a walk or two each day, and provide them with companionship. The dogs sleep outside in their cosy houses except in the cold weather, when they sleep in the heated attached garage. They are allowed in the house to hang out with their people in the evenings. The sitter would also live in the house, and insure the heat is on and everything is ok for insurance purposes.
