House by the sea with 3 cats
Hello all! We live by the sea in a quiet Nanaimo neighbourhood and have three cats with personality! I work as a marine conservation biology scientist and we have an inspiring view of the Salish Sea and the mountains on the mainland. We travel overseas every once in a while and are looking for some lovely people to watch our home, take care of our cats, and water some of our plants while we are away. I have a special place in my heart for native edible plants and we have just begun to redo the landscaping in our yard so that we can grow more of our own food. We also enjoy connecting with new people and look forward to hearing from you!
Our Home & Location
We live in a two-bedroom house with two bathrooms. This is a split level house and there are a few stone stairs that lead to the front door. The main floor includes a master bedroom with a king-sized bed, a kitchen, a dining room, and a living room. From the living room, you'll enjoy wonderful views and sunrises over the Salish Sea, Newcastle Island, and mountains on the mainland. There is also access to a sunroom and the back deck from the main floor. While we don't have a television, we do have a piano, guitar, and a harp for those who are musically inclined. The basement has a second bedroom, another bathroom, a laundry machine (no dryer), and access to the garage.
Close to home and within walking distance, we have a variety of stores that sell groceries, pet supplies, alcohol, and office supplies. There is also a bank, a hardware store, and a few restaurants....
Within walking distance of our house are some walkways that take you down to the beach and along one of the local creeks in our neighbourhood. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Utah needs to take some medication every day. I give him his medication in a pill pocket. He is also somewhat timid and would not do well with young children around him. He is otherwise healthy. And he is a very sweet cat!
Abby is very healthy also. She is the dominant cat in our household. She is affectionate with me, but fairly independent with others. She often sleeps on the bed with us....
Utah and Abby have lived together here for about 5 years. While they are not very close, they prefer spending time with each other than with Polly. They spend most of their time upstairs and share two litter boxes. I usually feed them upstairs 2-3 times per day.
Polly is relatively new to our family and spends most of her time in the basement away from the other two cats. She eats a special cat food as she has pancreatitis. Her food and water are given to her downstairs, although she often drinks from a bowl of water that we keep upstairs for the other cats. She has two litter boxes in the basement and will not use a litter box if is has not been cleaned out. So, I clean out her boxes 2-3 times per day. As she seems to be developing dementia and is often vocal at night, we usually keep the basement door closed at night. She has a favourite pillow that she likes to sleep and rest on down there. And she loves to be brushed!
All of the litter from the litter boxes can be flushed down the toilets.
These are indoor cats. Abby and Utah know how to return into the house if they escape, but Polly has never been outside since she came to live with us. Shaking the food container outside after an hour or two usually brings Utah and Abby running back when they do escape!
We also have some plants that could use some watering 1-2 times per week. + More info
