Six weeks on a Coffee Farm in Ecuador!
Looking for adventurous person to care for my animals for six weeks. Spanish speaker preferable. I have four wonderful dogs and four cats. (Dogs: Camila, Quilla, Foxy and Cholo and cats, Latte, Fluff, FiFi and Florcita.) My farm hand and his wife, Samuel and Lucia, live in the caretakers house on the premises. They have been with me for 16 years and are a good resource for how things are done locally.
Our Home & Location
You can check out the farm on-line if you do a search for Above the Clouds Coffee. We are an hour and a half northwest of Quito (25 minutes from Nanegalito). This gorgeous subtropical farm is 24 acres at 5,000 feet above sea level with temps ranging in the 60's at night into the 80's during the day. It is lush rolling green pastures surrounded by huge ravines with mountains in the distance. There are hundreds of bird species including Toucans, Woodpeckers, and Parrots and my latest house sitter just spotted a monkey in the banana trees. They have been hiding from me for 15 years! There are two acres of coffee which my farm hand cares for.
The farm is REMOTE. It is at the end of a dirt road, 4 km from a small town called Santa Elena where you can get public transportation. You either have to WALK to town (45 minutes or call for a private taxi for $4.) I will provide you with a ride to town once a week for supplies. You can get basic groceries and necessities in Santa Elena and a bigger selection of groceries along with a butcher, hardware store and ATM in Nanegalito....
The house is a two-story rustic wood construction with a newly remodeled kitchen, living room and two full baths upstairs with three bedrooms. There is a doggy door onto the back porch and the animals come and go as they please. (They are free range!) The cats do not use a litter box--they go outside. Since Samuel lives here too, you would be free to head to Quito or take day trips. He spends most of the day on weekends in town so I wanted someone to be with the animals. I provide unlimited internet and you can pay as you go Direct TV if you like. There is cell phone reception. It is a Third World Country with all it's difficulties but also a beautiful sanctuary. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Feed the cats and dogs daily. Walk around the property every couple of days. The dogs and cats all go for a 15 minute morning walk with us up the road each morning so you can continue the tradition. If you want to help with the coffee farm, feel free! You can plant your own garden if you want.
