Sweet Venus needs loving company this winter near Bordeaux, France !
Hello ! Our names are Delphine and John. I am french, I work as a therapist and as a teacher. John was born in England, he is a Dr in Homeopathy, a healer and workshop facilitator. We are based in France but our work often requires that we travel, hence, having pets was not an option. Until 3 years ago, we were the 2 only animals living in our house ! But that was without counting on a clever young female cat who had spotted our property and its keepers, and decided that was it ! John never liked cats much, but this one, clever girl, has used all her charms with him, and within a few visits, the deal was done ! She was young, around 1 year old, very sweet and gentle, and since she has in inverted V on her forehead and was such a loving little creature, I named her Venus..... The deal was she was to manage on her own when away, but this did not work very long for me. I kept worrying and was delighted when I was introduced to this website.
We are lucky to be the keepers of a secluded, peaceful and charming property which includes a large garden, our old stone house, a few outbuildings, a standing stone, and the big cambodian buddha. This place is situated in Gironde, in the south west of France, one of the nicest parts of the country....
We are 55 mns away from the amazing city of Bordeaux, well known for its wines, but also for its beauty, its pedestrian streets (the longest in Europe), its architecture, hundreds of shops, bars, pubs and restaurants. The closest decent sized town (8 kms away) is Coutras. We enjoy its 2 weekly open air markets with fresh and affordable local food, 2 supermarkets, and a good organic shop too. We do think that altogether, it is a very pleasant experience for our sitters. + More info
Our Home & Location
Of course, everybody might say that, but we have a pleasant home. What is changing this year though, is that it is for sale, so it needs to stay in very good condition !
Situated in a peaceful surrounding, (countryside, woods), t is 175 square meters, with 2 living rooms, a kitchen, an office, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and toilets. John and I work a lot from home too so internet & wifi are no problem. The only thing is you won't be able to download movies as we don't/can't have the fiber , that's living in the countryside for you ! But, you won't need to as you'll have Netflix in addition to english TV.
The south west of France enjoys some of the best weather in France and is well known for its wines, liquors and good foods as well ! You will be spending most of your time in the main living room where there is a very inviting sofa, the TV, table and chairs and the kitchen next door, so that you can do whatever you need to do in a comfortable way !...
Outside, there are woods and prairies, so you can go out for a walk whenever you wish.
Coutras, a little town close to us is 10 mns away, with everything you might need (big open air markets twice a week, supermarkets, post office, organic shop, bakeries, Mc Donalds, take away yummy pizzas....!)
And, less than an hour drive away there is Bordeaux, a truly beautiful city very much worth a visit.
Having a car is a pre-requisite where we live ! I will gladly let you use my Honda HRV. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
This post is a bit different from the previous ones as our house is presently for sale. So our house has to remain in very good condition. No worries though as our sitter won't have to deal with visits !
Apart from that, managing french is better and being able to drive a car (in France), or drive to us with a car) is a pre-requisite because the sitter will need it to go shopping etc. Again, I will gladly let my Honda available to them.
We wish that our sitter mainly stays here for our cat, feeding her, petting her, playing with her, and letting her live her life as if we were here. She is a very loving and social cat, hardly vocal at all, but as with most cats you can't force her into anything....
I am afraid to say she is a bit spoiled like a single child would be, but she is (mostly !) well behaved. Our sitter has to let us know if anything happens to her before taking her to the vet, unless there is a real urgency. We do hope nothing such will be needed, but we never know, do we ?
Depending on the season, we might require watering the garden a bit (we don't have a huge amount of plants, no worries). We don't mind you going out here and there for a few hours, but we do not want her to be alone all day long, and without food and water, especially in the winter. Our sweet Venus is the main reason why we want sitters... ! The last thing l would mention is we wish a sitter who is mindful of their surroundings and caring for the interior of the house and its content, all the more important as the house is for sale and just went through quite a bit of renovation.
Do not worry about this sit to be cancelled if the house gets sold by then, because in our country, it takes up to 3 months for the whole process to be completed.
Last but not least, although we certainly want our sitter to be comfortable, for very sure, we also much appreciate people who will pay attention to making reasonable use of commodities as gas, electricity, water etc... out of sheer common sense. Thank you so much ! + More info
