True Pet Lover required for an adorable old dog and timid young cat need love and cuddles whilst we are away
Our lovely home is in rural South West France. Luckily we have the best of both worlds, being situated in the countryside with total privacy, plenty of land, and space around us, whilst only being 15 minutes from the beautiful village of Eymet, 40 minutes from the stunning town of Bergerac and 1.20 hrs from the gorgeous city of Bordeaux.
Our house is a renovated 200 year old (at least) French Farmhouse, which benefits from underfloor central heating and has wood burners in both downstairs reception rooms....
The house comprises of 4 bedrooms, and 3 bathrooms, an outside swimming pool and an outside eating area. The house is set in the middle of its own 5 acres, allowing our animals uninterrupted fun!
The house has English only satellite TV and Wifi throughout.
Sometimes we need to go back to the UK for family matters and when we do our old rescue dog prefers to be in his own house now, rather than in kennels, especially in the winter months, as his legs aren't quite as good as they used to be!
Our cat, a relatively new addition to our family needs is still wobbly from past history, and I couldn't bare the thought of leaving her in a strange environment!
As of April we now have a "Potager" or Vegetable garden with beans, tomato, strawberries, cucumber, melons, chilli, peppers, oh and a host of other "stuff" I've yet to decide what to do with! This is a new adventure, and am not renowned for my green fingers, so whether anything of this is still around in October or not will remain to be seen! (But I'm making it known that if it is still there, it may need a little watering...) + More info
Our Home & Location
4 bedroomed 3 bathroomed french farmhouse cottage complete with outdoor swimming pool, and 5 acres of land that the dog loves to walk around. And the cat loves to hunt in! We are very remote, with no public transport so a car is a necessity. Nearest supermarket 10 minutes car drive.. If you want some peace and quiet and love animals - this is ideal !
Responsibilities & Pets
Our animals are both rescues and have a lot of love lavished on them...oh ok they are spoilt! So the only responsibility that would be required would simply be looking after the dog and cat. Feeding, walking, cuddling. That's it! .. oh and watering the house plants...
Max is getting on in years now and struggles, as do most big dogs of a certain age with his back legs. He is losing muscle definition in his legs and hind quarters, and on our typically French tiled floor he struggles to get purchase, and so he has a bed in each room which makes it easier for his to get up and down. He does love company and will follow me from room to room. He sleeps mainly, but does love a slow walk round our paddock, sniffing out the various wildlife that has passed through since his last turn round the field!...
Athena our cat, is a very independent lady who worships my children, and vice versa. Her and Max are gradually becoming friends, but her domain is the upstairs of the house, where poor old Max can't go.
++May 2017 ++ We have a new (partial) edition to the family - A stray young male feral cat has been sneaking in through the cat flap and eating anything he can find for some time now... Well he now has his own bowls, (just inside the cat flap) and comes in each morning and evening for his meals, we still can't get too close as he is very very scared of humans, but gradually is beginning to understand that we (at least) are not going to hurt him. He will need the same gentle care from our housesitters. + More info
