Off the grid house surrounded by vineyards in South of France
We are a couple in our early 60s living on a small organic farm growing aromatic plants and keeping bees. We are totally "off grid", with electricity provided by solar panels and heating in the winter from two wood burners. Water is delivered from the village once a month.
In the summer we let the house to holiday makers and live on our land where we sleep in a tree house, cook in an outdoor kitchen and shower in a Bali style open air bathroom. It's a life we love, being very much in touch with the elements.
Our Home & Location
Our house is the end of an old farm house, the rest of which is uninhabited. We are on the brow of a hill surrounded by vineyards, yet only 30 minutes drive from Montpellier, an exciting historic city and 5 minutes from Gignac with a colorful weekly market and local shops, bars and restaurants.
The world heritage site, St Guilhem let Desert is 20 minutes away in the dramatic gorges de l'Herault, great for canoeing, hiking and swimming. There are some fine local organic wines being produced in nearby domains and in the summer our local auberge offers free wine tastings every week with a group of local producers....
The house has two double bedrooms, bathroom with shower and toilet, downstairs is open plan with a simple but well equipped kitchen/dining room and comfortable living room.
Outside there is a shady courtyard and hammocks to relax in. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
We are looking for someone to look after our 3 year old female Labrador cross German shepherd, Juno from time to time when we go away either for a long weekend or up to two weeks. She's very friendly, bouncy and loves long walks as well as hanging out on the property.
We have recently got two sweet little tabby kittens which are 4 months old. Lots of mischief and fun....
Depending on the time of year we would also like the plants to be watered and the plunge pool filtered.
For our request for house sitters in the summer we are looking for a couple who would be happy to live in our tree house. From June to early September we let the house to holiday makers and live on the land with an outside kitchen, shower and tree house for a bedroom. We love it and if it's your dream then please contact us.
We are looking for people who enjoy being "away from it all" and who are practical and reliable. We are planning on having chickens at some point this year which would mean feeding them and letting them out etc. each day. Because our situation is quite unusual we welcome sitters to visit us beforehand to see if it suits them. + More info
