Gerry et Nadège Phillipson
Nadège is a retired primary school teacher, Gerry, a retired university teacher. Our two daughters, Noémie and Amélie have left home and have their own busy lives. We're also extremely busy ourselves! We have a four year-old black Labrador, Jake. He was trained as guide dog but because of problems with his front legs he couldn't be risked to a blind person, even though the issue was successfully corrected by surgery. When we travel we prefer Jake to be looked after in his own home.
Our Home & Location
From the photographs it will be apparent that our house is substantial and set in a large garden. The house is on three floors. The lower floor has several room, including a laundry, workshop, study and wine cellar. The ground floor is where the lounge-dining room is situated, together with the kitchen, a second study, and an independent double bedroom and bathroom. This is where house sitters are usually accommodated. The upper floor has a large balustraded landing with a second bathroom and three bedrooms.
The house stands above an attractive village, Payrignac, and its lake. Gourdon, the nearest town, is just four kilometres away and has all the usual facilities, shops, restaurants, cinema, markets etc....
We are in the department of the Lot, but within easy driving distance of the Dordogne river (15 minutes). The entire area well known for its ancient chateaux, famous caves and medieval towns and villages like Sarlat and Rocamadour, all within a 45 minute drive. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
Jake will need walking daily. He loves to swim and there are lakes within easy walking distance. Because of the problem he had with his front legs his exercise has to be controlled. Because he is a trained guide dog certain protocols have to be observed to maintain aspects of that training and to keep his routine to what is familiar to him. Full details will be given house sitters. We usually like people to arrive the day before we leave so we can spend time together.
