Dog sitting for 2 cocker spaniels in Provence (House with private garden, pool and car included)
We are an English couple who have lived in France since 2011. Our cocker spaniels are very much part of the family and we are looking for sitters to take care of them and enjoy our home when we are away. This assignment would best suit a couple and sitters must be able to drive. This assignment would not suit families as our dogs are not used to children.
Our Home & Location
Two bedroom provencal house on a peaceful private domain (gated - 8 houses) with private garden, parking, shared heated pool (May-Oct), tennis court and communal gardens. Walking distance (steep incline) to the famous village of Saint Paul de Vence with a few restaurants, bar, art galleries, museums and shops (10 mins by car). Choice of supermarkets nearby. 20 mins drive from Nice airport. 10 mins drive from the A8 motorway which services the region (eg Monaco (45 mins), Nice (25 mins) Antibes (20 mins), Cannes (50 mins)). 10 mins drive to train station with a regular service covering all stations between Italy and Cannes. Beach 15 mins drive. Shopping centre with restaurants and cinema 10 mins drive . A wonderful location for a relaxing stay and a perfectly positioned base for exploring the delights of the region. Happy to provide more photos or more information about the house / area if requested.
Responsibilities & Pets
Our priorities are for the house to be kept secure and for Peggy and Dave to have a stress-free and fun time while we are away. The dogs need a good walk daily and plenty of play time (they have lots of energy). There is a river walk nearby (10 mins drive) where they can run about safely off lead and swim. There is also a woodland walk behind the house. They are used to a pretty fixed routine, which is easy to follow, they understand and which suits them well. Once the morning walk is done (approx. 1 hour), they can be left alone in the house to rest for 4-5 hours if you wish to go out exploring the area. A short walk and perhaps some ball play in the garden in the afternoon would complete their exercise needs. They socialise well enough with other dogs and adults on walks but they are not happy around children so caution should be exercised please. They don't walk particularly well on lead unfortunately - both have the cocker trait of pulling. Both are ok at recall, particularly if there is a biscuit involved. It is likely they will be mucky after a walk so a hose down and towel off will be required. Obviously they also need to be fed each day. We will leave full instructions, along with vet packs and a SatNav with useful locations saved into the favourites. With regard to the house, all we ask is that it is left reasonably clean and tidy for our return. Two dogs can create a bit of mess, which we are of course used to. We have towels and throws and blankets to cover the soft furnishings and everything is washable so we wouldn't be worried about everything staying pristine. We would like sitters to arrive the day before we leave to go through details in person and we would ask that you leave the day after we return, to ensure cover in case of delays. We would also like sitters to drop us off at the airport and collect us where applicable.
