3 cats in Crete
Hi. I am English and now live in Crete in a seaside village called Kalyves. I have 3 cats....Pebble (Princess P) who is just over 1, Pickle, my boy who is now 6 months, and Cleo my ginger girl who is only 2 months old. All were rescued and all have lovely temperaments ( Pebble can be vocally stroppy) and are non scratchy.
I am going to South Africa on January 4th 2019 and will be away for 4 weeks. I am going to do a long held dream and work on a big cat sanctuary whilst away, so am looking for someone who loves cats and who might like to try winter on Crete. I am 5 minutes walk from the beach and supermarket and a little further on into the rest of the village.
Our Home & Location
My home is a new 90sqm ground floor apartment. It is the only finished apartment in the block. The rest is a concrete block. No work is being done on it as the landlord has run out of money. There is 1 next door neighbour and other than that there is olive grove around and another neighbour further down from me. It is very quiet.
There is an open plan lounge/kitchen. The kitchen is not huge and the cooker electric. There is sofa, chairs, large dining table, TV and a working fireplace....
The fire is what heats the radiators so anyone housesitting needs to be comfortable with making a fire up. This also heats hot water, but there is also a solar panel for this. The wood store outside has lots of wood chopped up ready for winter already.
The bathroom is large and lovely. There is a new washing machine and shower, but no bath. As this is Greece toilet paper has to go in the bin and not down the loo.
There are 3 bedrooms...the cats tend to pile in with me.
It is a non smoking house but there are table and chairs outside and ashtrays.
Wifi...this may be a consideration as it is limited. In terms of normal usage such as web browsing you can be on for hours but live TV streaming no more than 4 hours a day is possible. You can do downloads to watch though from 2.00am to 6.00am and watch them through Chromecast.
The apartment is 5 minutes walk to beach and supermarket and a little further into the rest of the village but it is up a steep hill. It is a very quiet, very safe area. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
The cats are all young and in good health. They need feeding twice a day and their litter cleaning out. Other than that they like to play, with each other, with me and by themselves. Pebble snarls at Cleo but they do not fight. All 3 chase each other round the house, generally causing mayhem.
Do not leave your food out unattended or they will try and scoff it and don't leave any on the sides either. I have tried to encourage them to not jump on the kitchen units but it is a losing battle! Likewise don't leave breakables on the tables etc....they will get knocked off....
Pebble likes to go out during the day and evening but I do bring her in at night. The others go out a little during the day but only when I am around to let them back in, as they are still young and there is a lot of stray cats outside. I tend to feed them too but not let them in the house...they do try! + More info
