House&Pet sitters needed south central Ireland Sept 2018 and Feb-Mar 2018l9
We would like to hear from local sitters who can house/Pet sit from time to time. We'd like to be able to get away for a few days every now and again, so would love to hear from potential sitters who could help out on a regular basis for 2-3 day sits. Sitters available for last-minute sits at other times in the year are particularly welcome as we like the idea of getting away at short notice!
We do have a trip planned for 14-31 July 2018 or thereabouts, 1st two weeks in October 2018 and 31 Jan-16 March 2019....
We live in a detached bungalow in southern County Tipperary, (NE Munster) in south west Ireland on a rural road on the base of a wooded hillside bordering the Vale of Aherlow near the Galtee Mountain range, the highest inland peak in Ireland.
We have two dogs, one cat and four hens. Lulu and Mishka get lots of long (1hr+) walks daily and we would expect our sitters to provide a good walk daily: there are fantastic walks on numerous tracks and trails on the wooded hillside opposite our home. Mishka does not travel well, unfortunately.
We look for a couple with experience, exemplary references on a par with ours (we also house sit), good communication skills and, of course, integrity. Depending on the time of year we would also hope for minimal care for our plants and garden. + More info
Our Home & Location
We recently renovated our three bedroom home, so with two wood burning stoves and a brand new central heating system it's warm and comfortable. We have a large fully equipped live-in kitchen, new bathroom, satellite TV, good internet, and Amazon Alexa/Music.
We live in an ideal location for nature lovers who prize peace and quiet, quite literally "away from it all" and anyone who wants to spend time in a tranquil, rural setting. We have (too many) books, satellite TV, good internet connectivity, so there is plenty to occupy you....
We would expect you to be a good friend to our pets, and walk the dogs regularly: there is a profusion of walking trails on the wooded hillside that borders the house. We would not want you to leave the pets alone for more than 3-4 hours a day, which should give you enough time to explore the locality. The area is brimming with history and culture. There are numerous places of interest within an hour's drive, such as the Galtees, Mitchelstown caves, Comeragh Mountains, south coast, Cashel, Cahir, Cork and Limerick. Although there is lots to see nearby we would not want any sitters to be away from more than 3-4 hours at a time.
We are 4km/10min drive from the nearest town, Tipperary, which has a full range of shops.
Numerous trails and tracks abound nearby for walkers / hikers / birdwatchers / photographers/nature lovers.
A car may be available by arrangement. + More info
Responsibilities & Pets
As well as looking after the house, we have two adorable dogs, one of whom, Mishka, is quite nervous (she was rescued), the other is Lulu, a young and very friendly but vigorous Karakachan (Bulgarian Shepherd dog) who is both lovable and affectionate but very powerful, so you would need to be at ease with a big dog. The dogs have an hour-long, at least, walk each day on walking trails in the forest on the neighbouring hillside. Our cat, Daisy, lives an independent existence and can be very affectionate or aloof, as the mood takes her: she is kept in overnight. There are five hens who need locking in to their coop nightly, letting out each morning, checking the feed and water, and occasionally cleaning out.
This assignment would suit a couple willing to spend most of the time at the house.
